Well mercy me. Here's another one, sort of like Love & Monsters, a lot like Boom Town and The Girl in the Fireplace, that I wasn't expecting much from. Once again I'm blown away by an absolute stonker of an episode. It starts fairly inauspiciously, and the big reveal of the threat immediately before the credits didn't quite instil terror. But then it got going, and blimey it was good. It was frightening too, in parts - the scariest part for me was the the scene in Chloe's bedroom where the Doctor is talking to the Isolus. It was just unsettling, although when was it decided that the Doctor has Vulcan ancestry?

There was also some humour, although not too much of it, and probably only unnecessary to the most po-faced of fans. The first peek inside Chloe's wardrobe reminded me at first of The Satan Pit, but I think that was just coincidence. There's a fair bit of foreshadowing and possible seeding of plots: the Doctor has a throwaway line about having once been a father, and Rose is curious for some time after; the ending, with Rose and the Doctor looking up at the fireworks; the Doctor being cagey about his future with Rose, and his relationship with her.

Excellent episode. The least promising of the lot, on paper, but upon viewing, one of the best of the series. I've been saying that almost every week, I think, but this time... well, the next two weeks look like they'll be brilliant as well. I can't wait!

Wow. That trail for the next story has almost blown away the impact of the episode I just watched. I can't express how much I'm looking forward to the next two weeks, having seen all that. Looks amazing.

I really enjoyed Fear Her. I liked the concept from the trails, and was looking forward to seeing what they'd actually do with it, and I think it was fantastic. We got an explanation for what was going on which was much more substantial than those given in either TIP/Satan Pit or Idiot's Lantern, and I was very pleased with that. Although that was some power the Isolus have. And I'm not sure that was the best name for an alien, although it's derivation is obvious...it just sounded too close to something not particularly pleasant when I first heard it.

The TARDIS re-park at the beginning was quite amusing, I thought. Certainly not somethinig I can recall seeing before. I don't like the Star Trek references myself, at least, not the mind-meld and whatever that was from this ep. Didn't mind it when Rose told Jack about 'Spock' though. Maybe I'm just being picky, but I'm just not a Trek fan myself.

The Doctor with the torch I found really corny. That was the only negative in an otherwise great story. It seemed a little gratuitous to me.

I can't make too much more comment now, as my mind is still reeling from the prospect of the finale. Daleks? For sure (one at least). Plenty of cybermen, and maybe Gelth...although those 'ghosts' didn't look quite like the Gelth, and the Gelth had to possess bodies to really be any threat IIRC. Torchwood opens some sort of gate to the dimension of the cybermen I think...at least, that's what I think that 'sphere' they mentioned is. On the other hand, there was a scene of a cyberman breaking out of his plastic wrapper...

Can't wait. Wow.

Someone please put my mind at ease.In the trailer at the end, that was dalek gun fire right. Samee effect an noise as far as i could tell. This wasn't just me getting overexcited was it?

From the teaser last week I wasn't expecting a whole lot from this episode, but I've got to say that I was rather impressed.

The girl playing Chloe was pretty much perfect. Cool and "alien" but a little scared underneath it all. I don't know if it was direction or by her own choice, but at one stage when her mother went to hug her, (when the Isolus was strong) she turned away and flinched. Really good that bit.

The Doctor said at one stage that he used to be a dad. Well in the very first series of Dr Who, he had a Granddaughter, Susan. By definition he must have had at least one child. They may use this in the next series, or even have some sort of revelation at the end of this.

I liked the rotation of the TARDIS at the start as well. It must happen sometimes that it materialises with the door against a wall or something. It shows he's finally getting the hang of driving the cantankerous beast.

When he picks up the torch at the end of the show, I found myself groaning with the corniness, but also with a little tear in my eye as well. At least we now have a suggestion for lighting the flame at the 2012 Olympics. A man in a brown overcoat. How more English could that get. Smile

Next week is looking very promising. Hold on to your hats people! And how would Rose narrate her own death? Does she, in fact die at all?

Definatley a Dalek I reckon. I gave this a very good. I love the unseen monster effect, it's sometimes more scary when you can't see it. Also possessed children are quite frightening, I should know I have 2 in my house Laughing

Definitely the special effects associated with Dalek weapons... but not necessarily an actual Dalek! Remember it features Torchwood, next week... those people who collect alien artifacts and weaponry...

Is it just me or has anyone else finally realised there are only 2 more episodes left to go this season?

Im a bit saddened actually. And Rose is going too! Sad

To cut to another topic, whats everyones view on a Christmas Special? I dont know if you need one every year. Id space them out... say every 3 or so years.

Not a classic but certainly better than last week.

The episode was quite spooky at times. Interesting that the Doctor says that he was once a father - will this put an end to fandom's debate on whether Susan is his biological grand-daughter?

The cake remarks (edible ball-bearings etc) were almost falling into the category of "You humans are so amazing" which is starting to grate. I also thought the torch lighting was a little too much.

A good from me.

How good does next week's episode look?!

I found this story a bit flat. Probably the second weekest in the season. I was hoping for a bit more gepardy, but no and it would of been good to see where the kid, cat and Doctor had to be taken. Even if it was a white room with nothing in it. Would of been a lot better if it had been set at night. I find with David Tennant's Doctor he speaks too fast and I have to watch the episode again to catch what he's saying. Maybe he's doing it on purpose to keep the mystery in the character.

That's got to be a Dalek gun that we all saw, I doubt if the Daleks are in the story, but I guess Tourchwood have a Dalek gun or two up there sleeve which proves that there are still heeps of Daleks around. Maybe they have a Timelord or two up their sleeve too?

Something no one's asked. Do you think Captain Jack will turn up in this two parter???

This wasn't too good. Nothing really brilliant or unexpected. Blitheringly obvious that the Doctor would'nt be in the house and that he would pick up the torch. Why would he be in the house anyway? Rose can be really dumb sometimes.

It was about this episode I got sick of the sonic screwdriver doing everything everytime. I hope they axe it or something.

That Chloe was soooo irritating apart from kookaburra kookaburra etc.

Fear Her gets a thumbs up from Michael Idato in the SMH Guide. He likes it very much that he even said that if we are so inclined that we check out the audio commentary for this episode which is available at the official Doctor Who BBC site.

One of the best of the series ... apart from the ending!
It started out a tad pedestrian (can't say I was won over by the preview from the end of last week's episode, either), but it quickly ratcheted up the mystery and tension, and when the Isolus was revealed I was truly astounded. The Isolus is one of the finest alien creations in Dr Who in my view - superbly bizarre and extraordinary, and so cathartic as well ... billions of little brother-and-sister floating jellyfish who play games on the long journey to their next home, torn apart by a solar flare! Love it, absolute genius. Full points to Matthew Graham for a truly strange imagination.
The only bummer was the Olympic torch scene. Such a great episode, with such a cheesy ending ... it defied logic for one (how did he get in the stadium?), but was just laaaazy writing and utterly groan-inducing. Dr Who doesn't need these anodyne, Hollywoodised injections of corn. Yeeeeuch.
But, pretending that part never happened, this was a great episode indeed.
And as for next week; I'm not going to be concentrating much at work, that's for sure. It looks stunning.

wait, what channel are YOU watching it on? the ABC i am watching has only just shown Love and Monsters...

I do love the Last 3 episodes though... watched themat a freinds house- DOWNLOADS!!

i love the isolus. it's so pretty...

also, i totally want to draw a huge picture of the earth on my wall! unfortuntely my parents would KILL me! rental houses!

that 'i was a father too once' is such a good line, just slipped right on in there... it'll really make new fans take a look! also, i heard a rumor on another DW site that they will be bringing the Doc's son into it or something... not sure how good my source is, though. gotta find it again.
