Great episode.
Loved the way he involved Jackie.
No matter how many times I see it, I love the "disguised in the white lab coat" scene.
I've known about the Daleks and Cybermen for ages now (shouldn't have gone onto the BBC website).
Was surprised to see Mickey. I thought it'd be set in the alternate universe again.
I will be bawling my eyes out next week. I almost was when Rose said she was going to stay with him forever.
I'm getting the DVDs as soon as possible (I want that Dalek watch!). |

I LOVED this episode!!! It's the perfect way to end the season I thought, combining everything that ever happened in the new series. Jackie, Mickey, Cybermen, Daleks, Torchwood... just about everything.
I thought the opening scene with Rose was an interesting way to start the episode, grab people's attention. And now, Daleks AND Cybermen!! I can't wait for next week's episode now! |

Sorry Madame de Pompadour but you have been EXTERMINATED!
Top of the list for 2005.
And so many similarities to Bad Wolf.
The Cybers are given sneak peeks before their big entry, and, as with Bad Wolf - the Daleks are back right at the end.
Best episode so far - and the best from RTD.
He's a much better writer (most of the time) for the 2-parters, but what I really loved about this episode is how it was very 'classic'. Where in the original series it would take 1-2 episodes for the true threat and all the clues to be revealed, two parters do that in the first and leave the resolution for the second - its the way to go IMO.
Love the Cyberleader's return - obviously there is a new Controller (assuming Lumic didnt survive his fall), and the Black Dalek Supreme makes its first appearance for the new series. Good to see varying voices from Nic Briggs for the Dalek - adds personality to a species without one.
Obviously continutity issues are involved yet again, but, and this is a BIG but. In the preview for next week's there are perhaps indicators this isnt 'our' universe.
The development of the characters too. The Doctor seems like he's increasingly trying to separate himself from Rose (since the Satan Pit), and why wouldnt you when you're told by the most evil uber dude tells you she's gonna die - and this probably ties in the Reunion when he hates to see people he's travelled with grow old and leave him.....
Mickey - why couldnt he be a companion? The new Cyber-killer obviously, perhaps it would be good if he could be introduced in ANY capacity in the future as a Bounty Hunter even for Mondasians.
Gee next week looks great - no Parting of the Ways ending and this'll be the best double episode so far. |

As an afterthought - what's the chances of an army of Time Lords following them through the void? |

The intro by Rose was very haunting and I love that shot of her right before the title sequence.
This and the concluding episode Doomsday was recorded back to back with Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel hence why it is directed by Graeme Harper and the reuse of the Cybermen.
Like Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel guest star Colin Spaull, Tracy Ann-Oberman (Yvonne Hartman) had appeared in the second season of The Last Detective starring Peter Davison shown on the ABC some months ago.
Trisha Goddard makes a cameo just like she did in The Second Coming starring Chris Eccleston and also written by Russell T Davies.
Another Carry On star appears in Doctor Who as Barbara Windsor appears as her Eastenders character. In fact Raji James (Doctor Singh) and Tracy were also regulars in Eastenders.
We see Freema Agyeman for the first time in the series.
Love the Ghostbusters allusion when the Doctor attempted to trap one of the ghosts.
Bizarre that the Doctor keeps on wearing the 3D glasses, which would be explained in Doomsday. Coincidentally Spy Kids 3 which was on 7 at the same time as Army of Ghosts is also available on 3D.
Matt says "Is it him?" before Yvonne replied, "It's him." Coincidental or not this is the exact same line when Blake was found in the final episode of Blake's 7.
So surprise that the Doctor pretended that Jackie is Rose.
Nice to see Mickey again.
The music towards the end is great as we see the army of Cybermen and the impressive cliffhanger as it is revealed what is in the sphere. (Which by the way was obvious to me given the make of it.) |

Yep, agreed with it bing RTD's best - a great redemption for inflicting Love & Monsters upon an unsuspecting viewing public. He done good.
I kinda used to like the way the 'threat' wasn't introduced until one or two eps into the old series. If I remember, Inferno, a 7-parter, took a few episodes to really hit the ground running, and they weren't in the alternate Earth until maybe ep 4 or so, but it was a great story. Same with The Green Death - I think it was the end of part two before we saw a giant maggot. I could be mistaken. But still, it ratcheted up the suspense, gave the stories time to develop fully and always provided the necessary element for a cool cliffhanger. |

There's every possibility that Lumic did survive but his cyberbody didnt, but I cant see these early cybermen being emotional enough to go back and get him.

I too am finding it difficult to believe that all these Daleks survived the war but only one time lord. I'm almost convinced that the daleks actually won and the doctor just skipped out early and doesnt really know what happened. It wouldnt be the first time. |

This whole season has really reminded me of Colin Bakers first season. It's been really unreliable. I mean you get absolute rubbish like "Love and Monsters" (BTW that's my view so you don't have to burn me for it) and then an classic episode like "Army of Ghosts". Very very frustrating.
At least the end of Rose's involvement is due soon! I will have a drink over that. |

Even after watching it months after it screened in the UK, it's still a amazing episode that forms one of the best stories this season. On a whole I think this season is better then last years. I even really enjoyed Love and Monsters.
The only stories I didn't like were, Fear Her, New Earth and Girl in the Fireplace. Even they were of higher quality compared to last season, well except for Fear Her which has to take the cake as worst Dr Who story I've seen for 25 years. That's just a personal opinion though.
Bring on Part Two. Russle T Davies has proved this year that he can write brilliant stories. Yay Russle!!! |

I really enjoyed this episode, but I think the suspense would have been so much better if they didn't show the cyberman's head peaking through the plastic the first time so early on in the episode and just waited for their full reveal when the Doctor enters the plastic room. You have enough clues to that it is the cybermen without having it in your face (no pun intended), eg the additional earpods, the cutting noises, even the shapes of the ghosts themselves.
Just my 5 cents.
Regards, Izzy |

I only just noticed that Torchwood woman says "Torchwood is a very modern organisation. I think it's important to know everyone by their first name" and then about ten secnds later she says "Torchwood refuses to go metric"
????
I bet everyone else picked that up right away. |

| I'm sure most of you know this, but the girl who got her brain reprogrammed by the Cybermen is played by the actress who plays Martha Jones. Did they think we wouldn't notice? |

| There's an explanation in Terrance Dicks' Made of Steel. They're cousins. Cousins don't look that alike in my experience, but hey, whatever. |

There were the Lane cousins. Patty and Cathy (Patty Duke show). Shirley there must be more than just those. |

Ah, possibly. I just haven't seen any cousins like that in real life. I don't think people on television count. |

Sorry, the name doesn't ring any bells.
Must be from an alternate reality! |

| She's in the same universe with Rose in 'Doomsday' - did you not watch it properly? In fact, they might as well have revealed that Adeola was actually from the alternate Torchwood... so she's an alternate Martha... now THAT would be an interesting bit of retconning. |

A dull and dreary place... Oh, what am I saying? Of course it is! A run down Cardiff. How exciting that would be.

We're getting a bit Sliders here. How many alternate Londons can the universe(s) deal with? |
