The latest TV WEEK has its staff being asked the question of "Which famous character or person from history would you like Doctor Who to meet?"

Among the responses were Maxwell Smart, Mr Spock, Tom Baker (!), Hitler's father so the Doctor can stop Hitler's conception(!!), Dr Seuss, Princess Diana, Arthur Dent, Santa Claus and Albert Einstein.

Santa Claus? We've already had two Christmas Specials with pseudo-Santa Claus'.

The Hitler one is bizarre, and I don't think Diana would be very appropriate either.

However, Dr Seuss is a GREAT idea, as long as they wind up in some of his bizarre stories. I just had this mental image of the Eighth Doctor saying, "I do not like green eggs and ham, Sam Sam Sam".

Of course, Green Eggs and Ham is all about chemical warfare... or so I seem to recall drunkenly proclaiming - and justifying - at a university debate many years ago.

Ah... um.

OK, the green eggs and ham were metaphors chemical and biological weapons.

Sam is, of course, Uncle Sam, and throught the book he's trying to convince his friend (America's various trading partners) just how good green eggs and ham are.

There is, of course, a train wreck (a terrorist attack) and Sam's friend finally realises that green eggs and ham are good!

(If I remember right, I was inspired by Ariel Dorfman's Marxist analysis of Walt Disney comics...)

Today, I was reading the electronic staff newsletter at work and saw an article about a Thal delegation.

When I looked again, it was actually about a Thai delegation.

But, you know, easy mistake to make, really!

In last night's Spicks & Specks, there was a miserable attempt by Stephen K Amos to draw, Pictionary style, the song "Doctorin' the TARDIS".

I've been listening to the BBC radio adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes stories recently. Starring Clive Merrison (who also appeared in both Tomb of the Cybermen and Paradise Towers) as Holmes, you often hear of Who actors in them - for example, one story featured both Maureen O'Brien (who played Vicki in the Hartnell era) appearing with Maurice Denham (who appeared in The Twin Dilemma) is a story adapted for radio by Peter Ling (who wrote one of my favourite Whos, The Mind Robber).

However, I almost choked when Holmes and Watson started talking about Totter's Lane in one story...

Couldn't help but notice an ad for Torchwood DVDs in today's mX newspaper. But what really got me was the tagline, which read (and I'm not making this up):

"If you couldn't stay up until midnight to watch the rest of the series, buy the DVD!"

Wire in the Blood last night: Tony Hill offered young Mikey (and other people) jelly-babies.

This is strange, actually, because there had been rumours that Robson Green was in the running to play the Master in Series Three - which have been discounted because Russell himself has said that only John Simm was in the running to play the part. Still, interesting.

There was a very interesting news item in last night's Rove:

"An Anglican church in the UK is planning to conduct a Doctor Who themed service to attract a younger audience. The plan is expected to be a hit, as every kid knows there's nothing cooler than a Doctor Who nerd who goes to church".

Before the end of last year I bought the Region 2 DVD of Teachers the Complete Series.

There were Doctor Who references in some episodes of Teachers and in one those episodes, season 3 episode 8, which had Simon and Matt talk about regeneration from Doctor Who, this scene was part of Chapter 3 on the DVD of the episode. This chapter got the name of "Dr. Who Regeneration". This is the first time that I have seen the Doctor Who name being part of a chapter name for either a TV show or a movie.
