Today there was a new kids' reality show called Serious Amazon, which give a bunch of kids a chance to have adventures in the Amazon. One of the contestants is a kid named Jamie, and the 2 judges are named Ben and Polly.

I wonder if Ben and Polly realised that there days on the show are numbered, now that Jamie has turned up...

I was listening to Fred Watson (the singing astrophysicist) on the radio and he was discussing Time Travel. To get people interested they played the DW theme between questions.

Couldn't help but notice an ad for Torchwood DVDs in today's mX newspaper. But what really got me was the tagline, which read (and I'm not making this up):

"If you couldn't stay up until midnight to watch the rest of the series, buy the DVD!"

Laughing

In a follow-up to this, there is a Torchwood ad of the third and final volume on DVD of season 1 in the tv guide with today's Sydney Sunday Telegraph and it quoted a line from the Brisbane Courier Mail which looked amusing:
"Torchwood is Doctor Who in a dark room on Viagra."

Slightly ironic since the reason for viagra is to assist men who can't otherwise have sex...

True, although Owen had to use that alien device in the first ep to get his end away.

I recently saw the only surviving episode of the original A For Andromeda, episode 6 The Face of the Tiger from the Andromeda Anthology DVD release.

The serial involved some Who names including Michael Hayes and Peter Halliday who did the commentary on the said episode. Hayes and Halliday slipped in three Doctor Who references during the commentary. Hayes mentioned the Doctor Who Manual and the use of the computer sounds in the episode is one he would later used in a Doctor Who serial he directed (from memory I am guessing The Armageddon Factor). The final Doctor Who reference has Halliday saying "reverse the polarity of the neutron flow."

I saw the Family Guy episode 'Blue Harvest' the other day. It's a two parter that is basically a 40 minute take-off of Star Wars IV. When Han Solo (Peter) is trying to outrun the 'Thai Fighters', he puts the Falcon into hyper speed and turns back to the others and says "Man, hyperspace always looks so freaky", and it shows the Falcon flying through the Time Vortex to the original DW theme music, and Tom Baker's Doctor appears on the screen Very Happy

You should watch it, it's great. The only disappointment was that Yoda doesn't appear at all.

My brother found a reference in the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. The main character has just been talking about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's support of fairy sightings.

"But he was being stupid, too, because if you look at the pictures you can see that the fairies just look like fairies in old books and they have wings and dresses and tights and shoes, which is like aliens landing on the earth and being like Daleks from Doctor Who..."

I can't believe how long it took me to post this one! In an episode of The Late Show, Judith Lucy is showing the audience her "rejuvenator", which looks like a big silver TARDIS-like box. She describes it as "a really bad Doctor Who prop". The rejuvenator also works like Lazarus' machine - it made Santo Cilaro first a little kid, then an old man.

Can't believe I didn't post this sooner. It's a song called Rose by Geoff Smith. Warning - anti Doctor/Rose shippers may wish to avert their eyes.

If you walk away from me
Well you know that I hope that it would sure as hell be
Better than everything
And all that I've let you see

Tell your mum I said hello
Tell her sorry that I ever let you go
Far from the life you knew
And all that I put you through

But don't let the time that you knew
Break you like you broke me
Now that you're free

Rose
You're fantastic
You know if it can't last
You'll always be the one who knows
You'll always be my Rose
Fantastic Rose

Remember how it all began
All you had to do was hold my hand
And we've been running all this time it seems
But what does it really mean?

It seems like a million years
So how's it all disappeared?
Are you still here?

Rose
You're fantastic
You know if it can't last
You'll always be the one who knows
You'll always be my Rose
Fantastic Rose

All that I ever could show you was love
And Rose, you taught me how to let go
Of life

You saved me more than I could tell
Not that I'm desperate but you know just where to cut me
And you did
Right through the bone
But somehow I'm never alone

Rose
You're fantastic
You know if it can't last
You'll always be the one who knows
You'll always be my Rose
Fantastic Rose

And in case you were wondering if that was somehow the biggest coincidence in the world, Geoff Smith has confessed that it was influenced by Doctor Who.
