Another interesting and well-told story, I thought. Seeing the different reactions of the three time travellers to the present world made for a great tale. My only major problem with the ep is that I didn't think Jack should have helped the bloke commit suicide - he should have found some help for him.

I was expecting Gwen to tell the bloke not to try to control the young woman's activities, but then she did the same thing. The young woman seemed to be coping well, and she wanted to live her life in this new world, it seemed to me. It's just nobody else wanted her to. I'm glad she got the chance in the end to try to fend for herself.

Owen certainly seems to get around a bit. I can't figure out if he and Gwen are still a couple or not. Things should heat up next episode with Gwen's boyfriend finding out what's been going on.

I really liked tis episode. A lot slower paced than the other eps which was good, and we are slowly learning more about Jacks past(and future).

Dave is right. Captain Jack is just too damn quick to let people die, or let them be taken by fairies, or even just outright kill them.

Apart from that, it was an interesting episode. I was a bit surprised that they programmed two episodes in a row where there wasn't an alien threat though, coming straight after Random Shoes.

Owen is turning out to be a bit of a .... "ladies man" (funny how there are much earthier terms for women in the same situation though).

Another episode where Toshi gets to do pretty much nothing.

There's nothing much else I can think of to say about this episode. As has been said in other places "Mostly Harmless".

I thought this episode was fantastic. Jacks actions were entirely understandable to me, he knew that the suicide of the older guy was inevitable and there was little he could do other than be a permanent nursemaid/protector. He was simply trying to ease the old guy's transition. I think that this show's a certain realism in Jack, his goal isnt always to save the day but to make the inevitable as easy as possible.

I liked the different side shown to Owen, for him to be the victim of the kind of treatment that he is so keen on giving. Does anyone else suspect we will be seeing the pilot again, either in Torchwood next year or maybe even in doctor who itself.

Good to see some timetravel stuf without an alien presence.

It's not the fact that the older guy committed suicide that bothered me - that made sense within the story, and had Jack arrived too late to stop him I would have been perfectly content with it. No, it was the fact that Jack stood by and let the guy take his own life, without even trying to get him any help that bothered me. This is not the correct way to behave when someone wants to take their own life, IMO.

Just speaking from my own experience, as I literally wouldn't be here today had someone not helped me out when I was suicidal.

I didn't like this episode as I thought the storyline was stupid.

This was one of three episodes that were done really well. Both the characters involved and the storyline had depth.

I liked this one. Despite the lack of aliens, it least it had something out of the ordinary occuring.

I thought the bit where the guy saw his son was just heartbreaking.

I thought the Owen/Diane sex scenes were unnecessary. I knew he was gonna get dumped. Why is it that so many women suddenly find this guy who at first had to drug people to have them sleep with him and has really long thin lips attractive?

It was interesting the way the three characters were so affected by the 50s guys. As for Tosh and Ianto...

Meh, It was an okay eppy. I disagree with a lot of your views about Jack being to quick to let people die. He's probably down right envious they can!

I liked it how Jack sat there with the older fellow; he knew that the guy was gonna top himself anyways. And really, was there anything wrong with it? The guy should be dead by this day and age, is is considered dead back in his time. The only people that knew that he was still alive were Torchwood and Emma & Diane, who all (besides Jack) think he's gone away to live elsewhere, and none of them were all pedantic about staying in touch. Who did he hurt by dying? No-one.

Whereas with suicide in your own time is a selfish, cowardly act; you're running from all your problems, and leaving your friends and family to carry on without you, and feel the financial burden of getting your affairs in order and organising a funeral etc.

I liked how Gwen tried to be a bit of a mother figure to Emma, and help her assimilate (and like a mother try to keep her close where she could keep and eye on her! Razz). I also think that Diane's running away from Owen was also a little cowardly, as she didn't want to be at love's mercy, but courageous as she went to venture into the unknown to find the rift again.

Also, I think that it was great that Owen got a taste of his own medicine. I find him to be a rather Slimy character.

So cheesed that Tosh and Janto didn't rate much of a mention! Although the 'Children's TV Presenter' was as funny as hell! Loved the blase-ness of Janto's expression and explanation, while the older fellow looked like he was about to have a heart-attack! Also the look on Diane's face with the 'Smoking Kills' Cigarette pack was also v. funny, along with Emma's lolly rampage! That's how I recognised her from a kids show I used to watch, where she played a character called 'Ellie'. Gets a few 'E' name parts, doesn't she? lol

This eppy gets a 2.5/5 from me.

Ah yes, Girls In Love. It's a bit of a jump for her.
