| Did anyone else notice when the Doctor said "I was a different man back then" that he gave his ear a bit of a tug? A nod to 9's ears perhaps... |

I agree with meglos - Brilliant! (and fantastic!)
-Wasn't surprised by Jack 'coming alive' as I have seen torchwood, but my sister really jumped!
What a great way to bring back the Master!
I am still curious about Jack - He is more than 100 years old? Just WHAT is he??
Ohhh, I CAN'T wait till next week...
Can't seem to remember Jack running after the TARDIS though? (at the end of TW) -maybe I missed something. |

Overall, I voted good for this episode.
There are several things to admire about "Utopia" - and a few to despair over. Generally though, I would say that the good outweighs the bad.
With the return of Jack Harkness, much of the mystery has finally been explained about the period of time between the end of series 1 of DW and the beginning of series 1 of Torchwood. It was nice to have those loose ends wrapped up – even if some of it did seem slightly dubious and rushed. And of course it was just nice to see Jack back in a different environment from that piece of crap known as Torchwood.
Sir Derek Jacobi is a positive delight to watch on screen. He far outshines all others present and is the main reason - if not the sole reason - for the success of "Utopia". I only hope David Tennant took the opportunity to learn from his better. It is just such a shame that his time on the program was so brief. He played a better Doctor than the last two actors to inhabit the title role – and he was the Master! Even his costume was a joy to behold.
The introduction of the "fob-watch" device - both in "Human Nature" and "Utopia", is a very welcome inclusion to Gallifreyan technology. I feel that it really fits in with the essence of the TV show and is something that would not have been out of place in the original. It helps to provide a potential explanation for one or two uncertainties of the past...
On the downside, I must admit that I was not able to believe that was the far future for a moment. The reason for this was the inclusion of “present day” firearms and vehicles – not to mention the exterior of that refugee compound. Surely by the year one hundred trillion, there would have been some advancements in technology – not to mention biological evolution of the Human species...
As for John Simm… oh dear. I hope someone gives him a valium before the next episode. And perhaps it would be nice to give one to DT as well…. |

It's this week's Torchwood that sees Jack start on towards the TARDIS - not quite running, but he is still inside the hub before the final credit roll, so so presumably he started running when he got outside...
It was a mildly cruel accident that had the ABC and TEN schedules almost but not quite aligned for a smooth transition! |

This accident would not have happened if the ABC hadn't shown The Runaway Bride & Smith and Jones two nights apart back in June instead of the usual weekly gap. Had it been the usual weekly gap then Utopia would have been shown this weekend after End of Days. |

This is the first time that a TV show has gone exactly where I wanted it to. I was so happy. I loved that that crazy watch was involved too. I dont remember how it got from the Doctor in '13 to the end of the universe but oh well.
Torchwood is so annoying.

I doubt it is unique.
I rather get the impression that it is simply a very specialized piece of Gallifreyan technology. It can also fit in well with certain possibilities raised before in the TV show - even the original. |
