There's a new Doctor Who comic going to be produced by IDW Publishing and it's going to be based on the current series with David Tennant and Martha. It sounds pretty exciting! Sorry if this has already been posted elsewhere.
Here's a link to the press release - http://www.idwpublishing.com/news/pressreleases/new_titles.shtml
What do you guys think? It should be available in any comic store and online too. |

I don't think anyone's posted about this here.
The publisher, IDW, are currently producing a Buffy Comic written by Joss Whedon, which Joss has declared to be the 8th season of the TV series. They will also be doing a direct continuation of Angel - previous comics based on these two properties haven't had this kind of endorsement from the series' creator.
IDW's comics can be obtained through comic specialist shops in Australia. Hopefully they'll be getting this title in too, but it may be worth your while letting any comic shop in your local area know you'd like a copy. (Most will do a standing order for you.)
I'd recommend that you search for 'comic shops' with the search restricted to Australia (or whatever country you are in!) to find the shop closest to you. |

Just to raise this back into the collective consciousness, the first issue of the comic should be available in Australia this week (assuming your local comic store gets its stock airfreighted, and there are no hitches).
My local shop is expecting it tomorrow. |

If anyone wants to read it and you can't find it in a comic shop there are other ways of 'acquiring' it to have a read. *cough*channel BT
This first story was mostly light and fun. Nothing too in depth or serious. The artwork was mostly good. Although the characters seemed to suffer a bit from 'giant hands' in some panels. The style might be a a bit too cartoony for some tastes.
Has anyone else read this yet? What did you think? |

Yes, well...
The first issue is very inconsequential. It doesn't really seem to have a story - it starts, some things happen, and then it's over. The art is highly variable, with the Doctor and Martha well depicted in some cases and not terribly well depicted in others. If I wasn't a fan of the show, I wouldn't have bothered with the second issue.
The second issue is a considerable improvement. It has a story with a plot, contains some small references to the TV show (current and classic series), and sets up some plot threads that can be explored in later issues, while still being stand-alone. It has a different artist, whose style I prefer but, more importantly, has a better ration of hits to misses when it comes to depicting the Doctor and Martha.
If subsequent issues are more like issue 2 than issue 1, it should be a reasonable comic. However, generally the comic in DWM is better. |
