|
|
British TV show DOCTOR WHO hopes to exterminate all competition after receiving a nomination for this year's (07) National TV Awards. The popular science fiction show is a nominee for Most Popular Drama at the prestigious British awards ceremony - and is expected to scoop the prize. Doctor Who will compete against other U.K. programmes Life On Mars, Shameless and The Bill for the award. Meanwhile, current timelord David Tennant has also been nominated for Best Actor, while sidekick Freema Agyeman is a nominee in the Most Popular Actress category. The ceremony takes place on 31 October.
Can we in Australia get to see this if we have cable? |

The Bill... no offence to any fans out there, but does anyone actually care about The Bill anymore? I'm not saying it's had its day, just that I can't ever see it being someone's favourite show. As for the others... never heard of Shameless, found Life on Mars just a tad overrated (though not all that much)... in other words, I don't see why Doctor Who shouldn't win.
How can Tennant be "Best Actor" and Freema be "Most Popular Actress"? Does the second award imply that they can't actually act, and are just faceless loved celebrities? |

I have to disagree with you about Life On Mars ... I agree it's not as word-shaking as the British press have made out, but it does have that special something; it kind of reminds me of The Professionals with a twist. Shameless is some of the best television that's been made in years; uttery skewed and impossible to pigeonhole.
But dammit, after Blink, if Doctor Who doesn't score a guernsey there really will be no justice in the world. |

Yeah. As I said, I find it a bit overrated, but I still think it's a very good show. Just something that, for some reason, I can't get into. But I can still see it's good, and that John Simm is excellent.
And if Shameless is that good I'll bother to look it up. Awesome. |

I think that is what it implies. You'll notice with the Logies that the "Most Popular" awards always go to people on Home and Away and stuff, but the "Best" awards usually go to shows on the ABC. |

That's... rather unfair, then. I thought Freema was really quite good. And wouldn't Rose still be more popular (yes, Billie obviously can't win an award now, but it still strikes me as odd)?
Hmm, my sister watches Home and Away. Which one is your friend's niece, Cate? It, um, would be a really nerdy link. In fact, since she's so sick of me talking about Doctor Who, the fact that I can link my favourite programme to hers will hopefully stop her watching it. |
