Fantastic and nice to see things from another perspective other than the Doctor's. "What might have been" is excellent for a time travel show.
Whilst watching it though, I did clearly notice Billie Piper's lisp that many critics have been going on about. It was quite strong. But that's only a trivial sidenote. She did look bored or a bit like she was not comfortably back into Rose's skin. She did seem awkward or something. But I did like Catherine Tate in this episode. She did a great job, but boy she has had to do a lot of crying this season. At least she seems genuinely in awe of the whole time travel experience though and I like that.
I am looking forward to where all this is heading. |

OK...
it was OK....
I mean, if this was in the first series I would say it was bloody brillant, but the new series has been a bit of a one-trick horse...
Most of the threads and/or good stories have all revolved around the same basic theme:
- the entire thread of Bad Wolf in series 1
- Fathers Day in season whatever
- the entire Master taking over the earth thread with the humans from the future thing in series 3
- the girl from the fireplace in season whatever
- Blink from season 3
- Turn Left from season 4.
All those stories have basically relied on the same thread - that of the problems of time travel and the repercussions/potential of what can occur - all of those involve characters going back/forward in time to create an arc for themselves later on.
OK - that is a really cool idea, and has so much potential for good story-telling - but honestly - isn't it just getting a little.. i mean A LOT tired.
The reason I liked Midnight so much is that it was so REFRESHING for the new Doctor Who series.... for me, Turn Left just seemed like something I have seen before, and frankly, Im getting bored of the fact that virtually all of the good episodes in this series have relied on the EXACT same formula.
I get the feeling that the final 2 weeks have the potential to be too many guest characters which end up creating nothing. I hope I'm wrong.
And also, I hate the fact that RTD had to remind us of the ridiculous xmas specials as well as the ridiculous Adipose. I had already tried to forget them as they are totally embarrasing.

I had the exact same thought.
The reason, in case people were wondering, why Catherine Tate appeared very briefly in Midnight was because she was busy filming Turn Left.
Those who have not yet seen The Sarah Jane Adventures would have noticed from the news bulletin that Sarah got a son Luke along with their teenage friends Maria and Clyde. It is too bad for SJA virgins that you got to learn about Luke, Maria and Clyde this way.
Also noticed how many of the Torchwood team that Rose mentions in this episode.
Despite the bleakness of the episode there were some fun moments like when the maid pointed her finger at Donna and the line about water as combat against dyhydration.
I admired the character of Rocco Colasanto played by Joseph Long in trying to put a positive spin on the situation. So it was sad to see him being taken away.
Liked the upbeat of the music just as Donna was about to go back in time to set things right.
Confidential Cutdown: Here Comes The Girls:
A bit amusing of Billie's sad confession of watching past episodes of her as Rose.
It was so obvious who was in the last shot before the credits came up. |

I don't think they should have included that shot - those who avoid spoilers at all costs certainly wouldn't have been expecting to see it. |

This was a pretty interesting episode. It really emphasises that without the Doctor, the human race would have probably never even climbed out of the ocean properly.
Like everyone else, I noticed Rose's strange way of talking. And when Billie said in Confidential that she went back to see how Rose behaved, that made it even more confusing. Through her brief appearances this series she hasn't said a word, so to finally hear her - and hear her sound so different - was strange.
And she looks so different without make-up!
I have to admit, the Adipose reference was pretty funny. And I didn't even like that episode.
I'm more excited about the finale than the fact that I'm finishing school forever in a week... |

The short version is by adoption.
The longer version: Luke is an artificially-created , created by an alien cloning technique and part of a plot to take over the world. When Sarah and friends defeated this plot, the unnamed boy was left homeless and Sarah adopted him (with the formal paperwork faked by her super-computer) and Sarah names him Luke (after considering initially either Alistair or Harry). He is hyper-intelligent and has an eidetic memory, but lacks any experience with dealing with real people. (This all happened in the Sarah Jane Adventures special, The Invasion of the Bane, broadcast on New Years' Day 2007 in the UK.) |

Monty, you are so right! Even sticking my fingers in my ears and...etc, etc, didn't protect me from that one! Doctor Who Confidential team, you are bad, bad boys and girls! |

This episode so exhausted me that I'm speechless!
No, truly!!!!!!!!!!
But I can still type a little bit; plus I've discovered how to use:
PS: I loved Midnight and voted it a five, but loved this even better so, how do I vote five and three-quarters? |

That's my feelings throughout the episode pretty much summed up! I loved Tate's performance, it just got better and better! The episode would be one of the saddest so far in NuWho. The deaths of the characters... they made this a very shocking episode and I was most upset when Sarah (and Tommy etc.) were reported dead, even moreso than Martha or the Doctor. It all built up, and just when I thought an amazing episode finale was coming at the end, it continued to build up to the point that my mum and brother are looking forward to next week's Doctor Who sooooo much! It was amazing, and the ending was so exciting and... big! One last thing, I'd seen this episode already on YouTube, but that didn't prepare me for the thrill of watching on TV, it looks, sound and feels better. Now for the greatest, most terrific season finale Doctor Who has ever had............................. |

This ep had an interesting concept except it was too much like the time monsters from Fathers day. Rose is officially more annoying than Adric now. I just hate her! Why won't she just die and leave it at that?! And what's this whole universe ending nonsense? If it didn't end when Logopolis collapsed what could be causing it to die now? Unless that telescope has drained so much energy from the multiverse that now the whole thing is ending. Good idea Logopoliticans. Is it just me or does Rose have Micheal Jackson lips? Not the good black Micheal Jackson but the untalented child molesting white Micheal Jackson.
I'm also getting tired of the really long explanations for everything but I suppose you need that for the kids and the people with noisy houses. |

Actually it is interesting with Rose really. Looking back at series 1 & 2 I quite liked Rose, but I think that after she was lost in a paralell dimension, they should have kept her there. Let it be just another in a long line of assistants the Doctor has had to part with, and perhaps, if it was played down a little more, the unrequited love theme would be really good then. But bringing her back now just seems unnessary. We've had our explaintions about how the Doctor can't grow old with her (School Reunion) and also how Russell Davies himself said (well, to paraphrase off a Confidential episode) that "Life just keeps going for the Doctor and never stops, he did not even have time to grieve for Rose". So, I think that Rose storyline is as tied up as you can get for a time travel series. The Doctor has moved on, just like he did when he dropped Sarah Jane home back in the 70s. I mean Sarah Jane had to wait for the series to be revived before she came back and then they decided to tie up some loose ends with her. But with Rose, I think that she has come back a little too soon, and things have moved on. That is why I alreday have mixed reactions to how the finale is to turn out. But we'll leave my thoughts on that until then. But it is time travel, and that means that you have a bit of flexibility with tying up any apparent loose ends. But I am just having a Rose ramble |

I'm a bit unsure about the bug. It doesn't look very realistic to me, and just seems twitchy and man-made. But I suppose a big beetle would probably look how it does in Turn Left?.. I can see why Donna was so scared of it. I don't think her problem was with the big black insect, but instead with the idea of it being on her back all this time.
Anyway, I found that Donna's sacrificial suicide to save the future meant more to me than the one in Father's Day, because I hadn't been expecting it to happen throughout the whole episode.
As for Rose coming back... I think that'll probably be very controversial. She's my fave companion, and I can see why she was brought back. I liked her performance. She's mysterious, definitely different.. but she would and should be. I don't think their was much of Rose though, not really any amazing performances or excellent character moments, so her returning impression just won't be huge. But it was a thrill to see her again. Also, I think is our last chance of seeing Rose again, so I'm not taking it for granted. Moffat has said he won't be bringing back old enemies (unless there's a really good story), so that probably goes for companions too. |

and the preview for next week was awesome |
There did seem to something wrong with Rose/Billie's mouth, and the lisping........Braces? (Let's face it, her teeth are big) |

I actually feel there's more purpose and justification for Rose's return - she is in a parralel universe and working with Torchwood - probably running Torchwood by now. Rose's apparent akwardness and taciturnity may end up having someting to do with the dangers of crossing parrallel universe frontiers - not supposed to happen, I seem to remember; and perhaps she's working against orders.
I feel that Sarah-Jane's return was just another sop to nostalgic 30-something fans. The idea she had the hots for John Petwee or Tom Baker, at the time, is laughable . And I hated the way that "School Reunion" continued the trend of all the 'classic' Sarah-Jane stories. by slicing away at her character until virtually all sign of the spunky, ambitious ace reporter have disappeared and you get the quivering, spineless wreck in 'Reunion'. At the very least she should have been head of the nternational affairs bureau with a major media outfit, not sniffing around a school, doing Jamie Olivers school dinners research for him!
I seriously agree though that there needs to be a reigning in of reprising classic characters and monsters/aliens, but even more so of reprising characters and monsters/aliens from these past four revival series - please Producers and Writers, come up with some new ideas! |

OMG Dissing Billie Piper lol! I reckon we need a poll for new companions, because I've been sure that she's the most popular new companion. Maybe even the most popular companion ever. And then there's someone actually comparing her lips to Michael Jackson! Low...
I'd like to make charlie watch a youtube clip that, instead of the famous 'Leave Britney Alone', has 'LEAVE BILLIE ALONE!!!!!!!!!!'
I thought she was great. Sure, there was nothing amazing, and she did even admit her nervousness in the ep's confidential, but this is only the 'first part' of the biggest Doctor Who finale ever! I wouldn't get so judgemental just yet. |

Let's be brutally honest here... she wasn't great. she was embassingly bad and anyone who can't see that needs to step outsidehte fanboy world that they are residing in. |
