I see over on Outpost Gallifrey that the yanks are actually getting both decent and sane packaging for their version of the Series One box set.

Colour and design is the same as the UK & OZ releases but it's a flat pack. Without seeing it in person I'm assuming it's probably some form of fold out of "book page" style of packaging.

I haven't got the Series One boxed set yet, as I read there were a number of problems with some of the disks.\

- Any happy owners able to enlighten us to the state of the local disks?

And whats your personal opinion on the "Box Set" box?

I have the box set and on the first disc it stopped working around chapter 19 (episode 2 about 15 minutes in) so i was not happy with that. The box itself is kinda sturdy, i was lead to believe it was paper thin or something. The front where The Doctor and Rose are flips open and is held in place by a small magnet. The main problem i see with the box is the place for disc 3 (or is it 4 i dont have it in front of me) its the normal plastic holder for the disc but it is stuck onto this flimsy peice of cardboard (the other side has the small booklet that shows chapters etc) with not very much glue. It can easily be fixed with a bit of sticky tape, but its just poorly designed. This is what i am talking about however it seems that the UK placed their Confidential disc here instead of Disc 3. A fold out book page style box would have been a lot simplier and nicer i think. As for my problem with Disc 1 i have heard that this is a known issue as well as the problem with the second disc where it misses 2 minutes of the show if you select to play one of the slitheen episodes by itself.

I didn't have a problem with disc 1.

The problem on disc 2 arises if you view World War III by selecting the episode or by using scene selection. However, if you use 'play all', the part of a scene that otherwise doesn't show can be seen. You can skip through the chapters of the disc to get to the problematic scene.

This is obviously a flaw with the original authoring of the disc as it apparently happens in both the UK and local relaese. The manufacturers should fix it and issue new discs, but who knows if they will? (Obviously, BBC would have to re-author the disc first.)

The packaging is certainly wasteful and annoying because of the amount of space required. I've no doubt BBC thought they were doing something good and distinctive, but... well, it's just a silly size!

If anyone who has the boxset, I noticed the differrence in running time in "World War III", is only 40 minutes while "Aliens of London" and "Dalek" have 45 minute running time.
I overcame this by contacting Roadshow Marketing and they sent me a new disc 2 where the running time of "World War III" is now 42 minutes running time.
The difference was in the scene with Mickey and Rose's mum in her bedroom scene was cut out.

But I also have a problem with Disc 1 with "End of the World" it locks up in the introductions scene wit hall the aliens. I thought it was my DVD player but tried it on 2 other players and the same thing happened.
I'm trying to get this new replacement through Roadshow.

So apart from crappy DVD's and boxset packaging the boxset wit h 5.1 sound rocks!!!!!

thats what happened to me ..i returned to the abc shop i got mine from and they knew all about the issues with disc 1 's end of the world problem as well as disc 2. replaced them both no mess no fuss

Just had an awful thought.

The US got a sane flat book style packaging for Series One boxed set.
We didn't. We got the insane cube packaging.

Awful thought ...

Will we now always get the giant cube box each year so that the packaging matches ?

Or willl 'Series two" boxed set revert to a sane, and different pacakaging?
