This was my favourite of the new series novels so far. The fart jokes with the 'Slitheen' came across just as well on the written page.
I know the whole future prison thing has been done before, but no one does it quite like Doctor Who, I have to say! Great action all round, a great sense of despiration and the threat of the fake prison officers very real.
In all the books so far the banter between the Doctor and Rose (and Mickey and Jackie) has come across so well...as has their reactions to each other when in real danger. I felt I could hear them talking as I read the books.
All I can say is bring 'em on!

| This was the first of the three I read - I bought it solely because it's not set on Earth. At some point between buying it and reading it, I found out that the eponymous monsters were Slitheen, and I got quite worried. Thankfully, however, they come across much better on the page than on screen, and the fart jokes weren't as invasive and were easy to skim past; if they do have to make a comeback, let it be either in a book like this or in an episode like Boom Town, instead of having them as the main runaround baddies. Ugh! |

Well this was certainly a vast improvement on Winner Takes All.
Out of the first batch of three new series books this one is definately my favourite.
I read it last because I didn't like the Raxacoricofallapatorians in the tv series in their first story. (Although I enjoyed Boom Town very much). But they come across much better on the printed page. The descriptions of them coming out of their skins is much more horific than was depicted on the screen and they seemed a lot less silly.
Not really a bedtime story is this one, but a dammed good Doctor Who tale. |

| I was just about to agree wholeheartedly with SharazJek, but then glanced up the thread and saw that I've already said all of what I wanted to say, so, instead: hear hear! |
