I really enjoyed this episode. Bringing SJS back was always going to be interesting, but I liked the way it was done. From Rose's initial reaction all the way to the final piece of dialogue between SJS and K-9, the jealousy between the two companions was very enjoyable. I did find it interesting at the end however, that Rose was more willing to have SJS along than bring Micky. But I liked Micky's resolution not be the 'tin dog'.

The scenes with Milo and the Doctor were reminiscent of Unearthly Child. I really enjoyed the school setting, although the storyline with the one free child, necessary though it might be, got grating after a bit. Essential for the kids though, I guess. Not really my thing, and I can't recall it being done so bluntly back in the classic series.

There were many moments of strong emotional response for me; as SJS was by far my favourite companion. From the Doctor's initial response upon being introduced to her, then the scene outside the TARDIS after SJS finds it (at the school!? Way to go, to keep yourself secret from the aliens IN the school...) and then on through to the end. I got the feeling when she looked back after the TARDIS dematerialised this time, that maybe she wished she had accepted the offer of more travel. Loved the

"So, he replaced you with a brand new model."
"Affirmative."
"Yeah, he does that."

conversation right at the end. A nice summary of things from SJS' point of view.

It was great to have Lis Sladen back, and the production team made good use of the opportunity. The scene of Sarah and Rose laughing themselves silly over the Doctor's quirks was great. It was nearly all good - the Krillitanes looked awesome, and ASH's performance was wonderfully OTT. I gather these were a kind of biological equivalent of the Borg. I was surprised that the Doctor was in any way tempted by them in the end...although that gave such a lovely opportunity for Sarah-Jane to say something moving.

This has been all over the place, due to sheer excitement. I thought it was great...and I'm off to watch it again.

Now that (and I am going to say it) was fantastic!

Easily the best episode of Series 2 thus far. Like Dave I was interested how Sarah Jane would be brought back and although she seemed a little woody at times, what a wonderful link between the old and the new series for us all to have.

Even though I think I spent at least a quarter of the episode in tears(!), which the new series writers have had a brief to do with the 'old' fans, we are really going in to a world of Doctor Who that makes us all not just appreciate the series that many of us have known and loved for years but stretching it on to newer, meatier, bigger, and better things.

The Krillitanes were great, and probably we haven't seen the last of them in some form or another, but as usual, the characterisation was brilliant!!

Kudos!!! *watching it again too!*

What can I say. Stand out moment for me had to be when be when Sarah sees the Tardis and backs away in shock and then the doctors behind her and it all goes quiet and he just says

"Hello Sarah Jane"

To me, the story almost seemed superfluous. It needed to be there3 but it didnt matter what it was really as this episode was about people.

I loved it all.The doctor talking of how companions die, the first meeting with sarah jane, rose wondering if this could be her in years to come, K9 being used for some fantastic comedy.
"Bad dog!"
"Affirmative"

And that beautiful moment when the doctor asks sarah whether she got married and she speaks of one guy who was a hard act to follow.

MY Sarah Jane!
I would have cried if I wasn't sitting amongst a mass crowd in the common room of my uni halls.

One of the best stories I've ever seen (apart from the ones I was in of course!) on Doctor Who. Anthony Head was marvelously malaevolent as the Headmaster. I've always thought he was wasted as a "good guy".

The great British cuisine IS good for you after all, (after a fashion.) Eat chips, get smart for a short time, then get eaten by alien creatures.

I know there's a flaw in that logic, but I can't see brits being eaten by alien monsters as a being bad thing. Laughing

On a happier note, Elisabeth Sladen looked fantastic! I hope I'm so lucky at her age. (Not much chance there.)

I had tears in my eyes when Sarah Jane left for the final time. Seriously folks, the writing is simply light years ahead of the original shows.

Enough humour during the episode to balance the emotional scenes at the end with Sarah Jane leaving, but I'm so happy she got her proper farewell from the Doctor.

I had to laugh when the Doctor said that the Krillitanes "used to be like us, only with long necks" just as he was doing his best to impersonate a giraffe.

Its just a shame she never mentioned Harry Sullivan or that clumsy Navy Doctor. Smile

I did like the tit for tat play between Sarah Jane and Rose though

....hey!

Good episode, best yet in the series (I said that last week as well, as I recall, which bodes well for the next ten weeks). I liked Rose's horror at seeing what becomes of a former companion. Good thing the Doctor didn't discuss what happened to Mel or Peri or Adric. She'd be terrified and running off home before anyone could say "vworp".

I did like the Doctors line to Rose 'You can spend the rest of your life with me, but Ill never be able to spend the rest of my life with you'

I think that summed up the Doctors view towards Companions perfectly. its only a short scene but I think its great. And John Leeson still has it.

Also liked the homage to Leela and Romanas versions of K9.

This is easily my favorite episode of the season .. 9/10.

The scenes with Sarah Jane Smith and the Doctor were so good, I lost track of the story. Was there a story? Who cares?

- Great when Sarah first sees the TARDIS - turns around and sees the Doctor.
- Doctor again using "John Smith" as his alias.
- K9 running low on power (hasn't changed)

Lots of nostaglia - wonder what the new veiwers thought of it?

The only thing that didn't sit well with me was the implied relationship Sarah had with the Doctor. I never saw it as anything other than a big brother type relationship - if there was ever a physical attraction it must have been very subtle.

Great episode.

Im surprised nobody has mention Mickey finally joining the Tardis Crew. I mean i know with SJS and K9 and all .. but Mickey. The guy always had one foot in the Tardis and one foot back on the estate but the guy has finally decided he hates hearing about whats going on.. he wants to see it to. I hope he dosnt end up being a 3 story companion either.. in for the long haul.

Lets see if he truly is the 'tin dog' of the outfit. Smile

I've heard that he may well be.

However, this is currently just speculation - but we should know better by episode six i think...

No mention of her appearance in The Five Doctors....it's almost as if it didnt happen...

- Sarah thought she died
- he never came back for her
- she *has* met the fifth Doctor!

Trying to forget about it. I'm less impressed than Rose that Mickey's in the TARDIS.

Was anyone else put off Rose with her carrying on about Sarah?

Does she still have Cassandra in her body?

Maybe, maybe not, but she does still have a bit of the TARDIS in her.

Now THAT could be a nasty jealous streak!

I've found Rose much more cocky and self assured this series. Which to me just solidifies my thoughts that she'll die in episode 13.

And I did hear that Mickey is in it for the long haul
