Where Were We?:
The title of this episode sounds like it is poking fun at the audience as this is the opener of season 2 after having a break following the end of season 1.
It's funny when Robin called Marshall a baby before Barney whether the baby Marshall has been breastfed!!!
Seeing how Marshall dealt with that gun is scary.
Love Barney's euphemism for a stripclub. A fundraiser for young girls going to college indeed.
Alyson's hair has a new colour and I quite like it although I will miss her being a redhead.
A very good start to the season. |

The Scorpion and The Toad:
Wonder how Barney did the magic with his hands.
Should not have been surprised that Lily exagerrated her time in San Francisco.
Unbelievable that Barney would say that a twin is the same person. Oh I wish.
| Theta Sigma wrote: | | Quite unexpected when Lily mentioned a Quantum Leap marathon. (Incidentally I would like to have a Quantum Leap marathon, specifically last episode of season 1 and all of season 2 as they are the only episodes I have not seen.) |
On an update on this I finished watching all the episodes of Quantum Leap just three days ago as a result of Sci Fi. Considering Quantum Leap got mentioned in How I Met Your Mother, it was quite coincidental that I saw most of the remaining Quantum Leap episodes between the first and second season of How I Met Your Mother. |

Brunch:
Oh my one these "this happened earlier" episodes that virtually been used by every TV show.
As it turned out that Ted's parents have been divorced for a long while now but didn't bother to tell him about it until now. Talk about overprotective parents. |

Ted Mosby: Architect:
I suppose this one was OK.
Somehow Barney making use of Ted's name and profession was not really spectacular to me although the letter at the end was funny.
The next episode on March 8 comes fourth place in TV WEEK's Pick of the Day. |

World's Greatest Couple:
What a shocker seeing Lily and Barney in bed together at the beginning. It was quite a fun storyline including the wall TVs.
The other storyline of Marshall having a "date" with a man was not bad. |

Aldrin Justice:
What a surprise seeing Jane Seymour in this episode.
After being a waitress and then for most of the episode as an assistant at Ted's workplace, Lily goes back to being kindergarten teacher. A bit puzzling why Lily had trouble deciding what to do for a living as being a kindergarten teacher is something she is good at. |

Swarley:
Firefly/Serenity star Morena Baccarin guest stars in this episode as Chloe. Since she never appeared in either Buffy or Angel, this is perhaps the first time that I have seen her alongside a Buffyverse star (Alyson). Also surprised to see another Buffyverse face Tom Lenk.
She wasn't the only Firefly/Serenity star that I saw last night as Nathan Fillion guest starred in the Lost episode I Do shown an hour after this How I Met Your Mother episode.
Funny seeing Chloe with the crazy eyes, Barney being called Swarley and Lily as a hunchback.
Surprised to hear the Cheers song at the end as well as the Cheers-style credits. |

"How I met Your Mother" On 7. This week: "Swarley".
Has anyone else noticed how much the second season of the show is now almost exactly like the original UK version of "Coupling"? Or at least very close to it?
(And we're all aware of the short lived US version, which was quiet enjoyable but didn't appeal enough to the great unwashed to survive).
Coupling - 3 men, 3 woman, one man and one woman are a couple, one of the men is a bit silly, one of the woman is a bit silly, one of the men is a total womaniser, they all meet in a pub, stories are told for many view points and out of sequence.
HIMYM - 3 men, 2 woman, one man and one woman are a couple, one of the men is a bit silly, one of the woman is a bit silly, (they used to be a couple), one of the men is a total womaniser, they all meet in a pub, stories are told for many view points and out of sequence.
Of course american and british sitcoms are like cheese and chalk. The british ones are usually humourous through use of the characters while the american sitcoms often rely on the "witty one-liners" for their humour, but watching this show the other night I could see some british coming out.
And I've actually worked places where the "Swarley" effect has happened. A guy by the name of "Steven" was called "Kev" for years because of his last name. And I was called "Greg" at my first job because my opposite was called "Greg"; and using my name seemed to confuse everyone. I just started calling everyone "Mary" which resolved the issue.
Next week: "Atlantic City" - Marshall & Lilly elope only to have to wait 3 days for a marriage licence in a city where's there's nothing to do but gamble. So who do you think will have the "gambling problem" dear reader? |

"How I met Your Mother" - Channel 7
This week: "Atlantic City" 2007/03/29
Why is it that whenever an americian sitcom sends the cast of characters to a gambling centre it turns out that one of them has a gambling problem? I won't say who in case you haven't seen the episode.
Overall an amusing episode, nothing really amazing or stunning, except for Robins t-shirt. This episode will probably be remembered as the "one with the t-shirt". I wonder if sales of that have gone up since the show aired? See what I mean? 12 hours later and all that stands out in my mind about the episode is the T-Shirt. A pleasant an amusing half hour, but that's about it.
Next week: "Slap Bet" (aka "Robin Sparkles"). What is Robins secret that she won't reveal, and why does she refuse to visit the local Mall? Find out next week. (Pity channel 7 wasted the best joke in the preview). |

Atlantic City:
That shirt really looked good on Robin, not so when Ted wore it at the end.
The receptionist was funny but frustrating.
Unbelievable that Barney thinks that being under oath is just being in a courthouse. |

Last week: “SLAP BET”
The past is a foreign country indeed.
Yes, young people, back in the 80’s (or 1993 in Canada), people, or should I say “pop stars” did dress like that. Not to worry, todays “styles”, (yours), will be just as funny 15 years from now.
I have to admit that while the show is quiet funny, it feels more and more like an americain version of “Coupling” than ever before.
Barney IS Patrick. Marshall IS Geoff. Perhaps there really is nothing new under the sun ....
And I’m still disappointed that more isn’t made of the fact that the show is being told from the pov of 2030.
“Yes, kids, that’s what we thought alien’s looked like before they actually arrived back in 2015, who’d have thought Ed Wood got it right ...”
This Week: “SINGLE STAMINA”
So Barney has a brother who’s “just so” to quote QC. A fun episode with the usual “happy” twist.
Next Week: HOW LILY STOLE CHRISTMAS
Name calling and colds. Twenty minutes of undemanding fun. Grinch!
One day we will get Christmas episodes at Christmas .....

Still with us dear reader?
Yes?
In that case a question: If you watch the show why do you feel the need to read this thread which tells you no more than you actually saw in the show itself?
Another question: And if you watch the show AND read this thread, why don't you contribute to the thread?
Finally; Do you only watch this show because that girl from Buffy is in it?
Go on, surprise us all. Post an answer.
And if you're just after an episode guide try here:
http://www.tv.com/how-i-met-your-mother/show/33700/episode_guide.html
it's much better.
The trick is of course (to bang the rocks together) to google the following: " "show's name" episode guide".
OK, This week:
FUDGE!
GRINCH!
But you can say "arse", and that's OK. Americians are weird.
At least we all know what words to use if someone calls you a "B#g#t".
Once again a perfect opportunity is missed. "Christmas in New York. It snowed back then Kids. And you could drive a petrol driven car on the streets. Remember petrol? Still, the city managed to buy all those gondolas cheap after Venice finally disappearred, which is nice, but not quiet the same ...."
Ted's past words catch up with Lilly and it's an amusing 20 minutes trying to get her to return with the Christmas decorations before Marshall arrives home. Meanwhile Robin tends to Barney while he has a cold. Where do the writers get their ideas?
Next week: Episode 34 "First Time In New York"
Robins sister turns up determined to lose her virginity. (Hey! Can you say that word on television?). And the answer to the next question is: Robin: 16 Ted: 17 Marshall: 18 Lily: 18 Barney: 23.
Tune in for some more bad Canadian accents. |

How Lily Stole Christmas:
It is too bad but we do not know what the naughty word that Ted used to call Lily, all we have is the substitution word of Grinch.
It must have been really bad for Lily's super to cut off her power. |

Is "How I Met Your Mother" simply the greatest sitcom of television ever?
Well, of course not.
It does however have enough "pop-culture" references and 2 dimensional characters to make for an undemanding 20 minutes of americian comedy; or what I prefer to call "insult slinging". ie; characters only appear onset so that they can be insulted or made fun of buy other characters rather than advancing the story much at all.
Anyway.

20 minutes of side splitting fun and laughs. Not. See my previous post.
"Back then kids, Big Brother was just a TV show, who'd have ever thought that the Patriot Act and interactive TV would change so much. All Praise to President for Life, GW ..... " and so on.
This week: "First Time In New York"
Robin wants to say "I Love You" to Ted but can't face losing her "I Love You-ginity"; meanwhile her sister pops into town with boyfriend in tow to lose her virginity.
What a clever way to tie the "A" and "B" stories together by making them variations on the same concept. The writers just aren't paid enough I say.
Watch the dialogue it's "Round The Horne" double meanings all the way.
Next Week: "Columns"
Seriously, go here:

if you're really that interested. Episode 35. |

Treating it's audience with all the contempt you expect from a commercial television network, Channel 7 didn't show "How I Met Your Mother" (& "My Name Is Earl") this week, replacing it at the last minute with an "Air Crash" documentary.
So "this week" becomes "next week", and "next week" becomes "the week after next week". You get the picture.
I suppose Channel 7 didn't want to "waste" one of their better programmes against the final of "The Biggest Loser", so made all their loyal viewers such. |

And just so everyone knows this episode has absolutely NOTHING to do with Doctor Who Series 3 Episodes 04 & 05. Just because it's set in the lobby of the Empire State building doesn't mean it's a tribute to DW anymore than the original 1933 version of "King Kong" was. let's not have any of that "amazing co-incidence"; "the writers must be big fans of .." rubbish.
Next Week: (if Channel 7 can be bothered):
Episoide 35: "Columns"
Ted can't fire his former boss who keeps insulting him; while Barney offers Lily big cash to paint him nude.
Sounds like more light hearted fun that you can forget two seconds later. |

First Time In New York:
Not a bad episode of Robin's sister Katie coming to New York.
I so knew older Ted's story of what subsequently happened to Katie was bogus.
However did not expect that Ted's story to Katie of what happened on his "first time" to be the reverse account of what actually happened. |

Next Week:
Episode 36: "Monday Night Football"
A funeral conflicts with the Superbowl, so the gang tape the game, (totally illegal in both Australia & the USA to do so without written conscent), and watch it together on Monday.
The fun comes from everyone trying to avoid hearing the score before hand. What an original idea that we can all relate ..... seriously, why are you reading this? A total lack of any response by anyone indicates to me that no-one really reads this thread. And if you do, why? It's all rather pointless don't you think? Haven't you anything better to do?

It occurred to me last night that it Ted is telling his kids about how he met their Mother and he's doing this in 2030, and the kids look like they're in their mid-teens, you have to assume that they were born around 2015, give or take a year.
And as it's only 2007 in the show, Ted is unlikely to meet their Mother for another 5 to 7 years, if the show runs that long. Ok, Ted might meet their Mother next week, but somehow I just don't see it happening until the lasy episode, if ever. ("Aunt Robin" isn't their Mother).
So is anyone actually going to join this discussion thread?
If not:
I DECLARE THIS THREAD DEAD! |
