The one we have all been waiting for!
ABC Australia http://www.abc.net.au/tv goes to Series 3 in late
June. The ABC notified the South Australian Doctor Who Fan Club
http://www.sfsa.org.au that The Runaway Bride will air on Thursday 28
June at 8:30PM, with Smith And Jones and the rest of the series
airing Saturdays at 7:30PM starting 30 June.

| I'm surprised by the showing of "The Runaway Bride" at 8:30pm on a Thursday. (Returning end of June/start of July not so much). I wonder if it's a ratings issue? |

Since it's a weekday, maybe the thinking is that Catherine Tate fans will more easily notice it and tune in? Or maybe they've watched them and know that they have to skip an episode or two to get to the good stuff this series? Hmm.
Still, great news. |

| Dr Who on a thursday night. I think it will do well in the ratings. But it will be a battle with cahnnels 7,9 and 10. Lets hope the ABC wins the 8:30 time slot on thursdays. |

This means that The Runaway Bride will be up against Lost on 7 in its timeslot. Be interesting to see how the ratings on this.
I should also let people know that there is a possibility that the broadcast of this season could be interrupted if the Federal Election takes place during this run. This means that if the election takes place during this run of Doctor Who, viewers would have to wait two weeks between episodes as the ABC would have coverage of the election on that particular Saturday.
Federal election campaign periods are at least 33 days, this would give people a hint on whether the broadcast of the 2007 season would be interrupted or not. |

The BBC1 have also interrupted their run with Eurovision yesterday. Maybe it's a cursed series, lol |

More likely scheduling. Someone has probably gone ahead and slotted a 13 part series in, and forgotten about the Christmas special.
"Given the choice between a stuff-up and a conspiracy, go for the stuff-up 9 times out of 10".
Oh, and the X-mas special is a 60 minute show, so the 45 minute Saturday slot would be somewhat squeezed. |

Only 60 minutes? It seems so much longer for a story of so little consequence... |

I recall a few series that the ABC dropped episodes from to fit into fewer open "slots". Blakes 7 Series 3 had 2 episodes dropped the first time around to fit into an 11 week opening, (all 13 were shown during the repeat broadcast), History of Computers, (I think it was called), had episode 2 dropped to fit a 5 week opening which was a bit obvious as the episodes were titled part 01, part 2 etc. and only 5 of 6 were shown, (I know because I complained and that was in the letter that came back), and there was a series set in 18th century Ireland that also had 2 episodes dropped. Some schedulers seemed to have had a strange approach to putting on some series.
It's pretty slack if someone "forgot" there was a Christmas special, especially after last years. Probably some odd reason for it that we'll discover closer to the date. "Forgot" is still good, as are the other theories for it above.

I agree totally. I thought it might be ratings related, it happened once with "Brain Of Morbious"'; we got the 60 minute edit at 9:30pm because it wasn't considered suitable for 6:30pm broadcast, but after seeing ep.01 to 06 I'm beginning to doubt it.

Actually a 60 min special would slot in quiet nicely I think. Just drop the 15 minutes of filler. |

By cutting out all the scenes with Catherine Tate speaking, they could easily fit it in to the 45 minutes.

That was at the end of The Lazarus Experiment which had the credit "Doctor Who will return in two weeks". We in Australia could still see that credit if the episode is on August 4 and the election is on the following Saturday August 11. It would be very bizarre is this actually happened.
Checked TV WEEK and Lost from next week moves to 9:30pm on Thursdays with it being replaced at 8:30 by Heroes. This means that Heroes will be up against The Runaway Bride. Since Chris Eccleston is in Heroes this means there will be a battle of two Doctors, Chris and David. |

Won't happen. Johnny has to get a chance to wear another silly shirt at ASEAN or whatever it is. The election will be late in October.

Yaay! A Two Doctors (well, in a sort of weird way) with nine and ten. What more could you ask for?
Which one do I tape, and which do I watch live? |

If you cut CT out of the show it would only run for about 3 mins ....... |

My point precisely. However, you could have her lines revoiced, say by Harpo Marx.
The sound of a harp and a rubber bulb car horn would be so much more appealing than Catherine Tate. |

It's not like the ABC have got anything good to put on for that 15 minutes. Last year Creature Comforts followed each episode except the Xmas special (it's following Robin Hood now), and while it's a good enough show, its only real purpose is to fill in time. |

Howabout an antipodean Doctor Who Confidential focusing on Who fans in Australia? Cost one researcher, crew, some travel.
But no patronising. |

Like CT or dislike CT; she is very popular in the UK, which is why she got to do the Christmas Special. I suppose it's a cultural thing. And the producers did want a total contrast to Rose to end "Doomsday". As RTD said, he didn't want a downer ending.
I was actually surprised to hear that Sophia Myles came in to read the part of the Bride at the read through as CT was either unavailable or they didn't want her appearance to get reported to early.
Like the man once said; "Don't like it. Turn it off".

I don't know. Some "Catalyst Bits" on space would keep me tuned it. I suppose copyright & legal restrictions wouldn't allow broadcast of the 15 min Confidentials by the ABC.
That and/or lack of money.
(We are all aware that the ABCs funding has been gutted these last 10 years don't we?)
Although UK-TV is "broadcasting" them now.

You'd be surprised at how much that would actually cost, even for a 10-15 min programme.

4 weeks and counting to the Christmas Special.
Although it sounds like most people on the site have already seen it. |
