"Filming Finally Set for "Indiana Jones 4"

After years of teasing fans with the promise of a fourth installment of the "Indiana Jones" franchise, development is finally moving ahead, according to Variety.

Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Harrison Ford confirmed Monday that Paramount - with Lucasfilm producing - is set to begin filming the latest "Indy" flick in June from a script by David Koepp ("Spider-Man," "War of the Worlds").

The studios are eyeing a May 2008 worldwide release -- nearly two decades after the release of the last film "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."

Of course, the big question for fans has been whether Ford would reprise his role as the adventuring archeologist. He had long said that he would take up the whip again if he liked the script. Apparently, he does. Confirming his participation in the new film, Ford said, "I'm delighted to be back in business with my old friends. I don't know if the pants still fit, but I know the hat will."

There's no word on an official title (although IMDb lists the working title to be "Indiana Jones and the Ravages of Time" ... I'm hoping that's a joke) and producers won't disclose the storyline.

Movieweb also lists that several former franchise leading ladies will make cameo appearances and that the film will be set in the 1950's. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the latest script gives us. I, for one, would love to see Kate Capshaw (Spielberg's wife) back on the big screen with Ford. I also hope we're done with the Nazi plot line. I could do with some new foes. -- Shannon Nolley"

I very highly doubt that this will be as good as The Last Crusade but at least Ford is still indy. I hope he has a son or something so we're not left with this geezer hero in a new trilogy but I dont the film to star his son or anythging like that.

Speaking of Indy, why on earth does everyone hate Temple of Doom so much? For me it's the best of the three, although all three are great. But why is it so despised?

I wasn't aware that people hated it. I thought it was just unfavoured. My favourite Indy scenes are when his dad calls him indy and when they look into the temple with that whole fire-heart thing.

Temple of Doom was definitely the silliest with that little Asian kid. I didn't like it that much because it had the whole cliche Indy turning bad thing, and I hate it when that happens.

Personally my favourite was Raiders of the Lost Ark. It had a lot of action, and I liked Marion.

Yeah, I liked the first Indy film, "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Smile

The action was totally unexpected because I thought it was going to be a slow film set in the 1930s. I had absolutely no idea what to expect.

Favourite scene for me was the non-duel. Smile

The action and adventure in that film were taken to a whole new level I reckon.

The sequels were entertaining, but like ALIEN and Rocky, I'd be satisfied if I owned just the first film in the series. Smile

While entertaining, the latter films normally (though not always) tend to lose something.

If I get a dog I'll name him "Indy"... or maybe "K9"? Laughing

A fourth?
I'm not surprised.
With Hollywood film production dependant on films making most of their money in the first weekend of release, the idea of doing something new, different and experimental has gone right out the window.

And considering how films now have to be targeted at the 10-15 year old male market, (see Star Wars 1 to 3 as an example), I'm not expecting anything.

It was all downhill after "Raiders" anyway despite the hype ............

According to Andrew Mercado from the Sydney Sunday Telegraph dated June 17, Alan Dale is in the movie and the character he is playing is a secret role. Wonder what it could be.

As reported by Michael Idato in the SMH Guide, 7 has bought the rights for the film ahead before its release next month.

In the lead-up to the film's release 7 will show the previous three films next month.
