Outpost Gallifrey has reported that the BBC revealed that Martha will appear in three episodes of Torchwood season 2 next year but will return to Doctor Who, rejoining the show in the middle of the 2008 season.

In Martha's absence, a new companion will join the Doctor and will be in it for the entirety of the 2008 season.

An announcement on casting is promised very soon.

Oo, that sounds interesting. I like the idea of changing the companions around, it's more like the classics. I'm not too sure about having Martha on Torchwood though, coz it might confuse the people who watch it but don't watch Doctor Who.

Unless the character is substantially better written and acted, bad. Very, very bad.

I am thinking it would probably be something like when Buffy and Angel were shown on different networks. There were crossovers between the two shows for the final Buffy season and the fourth Angel season but each show manage to avoid specifically mentioning the storyline of the other.

Why? WHY, GOD, WHY??! OH, god... Catherine Tate. I can't believe they're doing that. I cannot believe it. It's official too, not simply a rumour. Oh. My. God.

In all honesty, I let out an angry animal scream when I read that news, and I'm quiet at the computer normally. Man, after Series 3, are they that willing to shoot themselves in the foot? What's with them and fluctuations in quality?

Personally, unless she's written and acted as a pillar of salt, then I can't see this as anything but bad.

Please, if there's any way of this getting back to the writers of Doctor Who. DON'T LET CATHERINE TATE HAVE ANY INPUT TO THE CHARACTER!

Then, and only then can we have any hope she will be above Mel in the "Worst Companion Ever" poll.

I've heard those say we're wrong to judge so early - sorry, but I think having seen 'The Runaway Bride', I can vaguely make the following predictions;

1) Tate being there will make Tennant quieter and less willing to fight - kind of like Tegan and the Fifth Doctor. Unlike them, however, the silence will be destroyed by Tate.

2) Murray Gold's music and Tate's voice will constantly try to top each other. My god.

3) Any excellent story will be sullied simply by her presence - in the same way that I adore 'Full Circle', but for many fans it's tainted because it introduces Adric.

4) The Tenth Doctor will die of exploding eardrums, a jet of blood slamming out of his brain (actually, even though I hate the casting, it'd be worth seeing this one scene).

5) Torchwood will be consistently much better.

6) RTD will have wished he left at the end of Series 3.

My problem with Donna Noble is that she essentially Muriel Heslop minus the charm plus a large dose of obnoxiousness.

I really don't mind Donna that much. At first, I found her bloody annoying. But I think she redeemed herself at the end. She's actually a nice character when she isn't screaming her head off. Come on, she forgave Lance after he used her for his own personal gain, and she showed compassion towards the Racnoss. I'm not saying she should go and stop the Doctor from killing aliens, but she's a nice person, and I think we should give her a chance.

Does that mean that no-one, and I mean no-one, can throw any stones, even if she does say "Jehovah"?

I do want to go on the record, here and now to say that Donna Noble may very well be a really good companion. She needs to be far better written than in The Runaway Bride. Someone needs to reign in the leash on The Doctor at some stage, and I can see Donna doing just that.

Anyone can shout and stomp about, just look at the Vogon guards in The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.

I think Catherine Tate is easily a good enough actress to do the role if it's well written.

I will reiterate though. No "Bovvers", or someone will be thrown out of an airlock. And there's no Heart Of Gold to rescue that person.! Evil or Very Mad

This is the first really bad news since the start of the new series.

I don't care how much 'talent' the brits think she has as a comedian, she was awful in TRB and I can't see her improving when she returns.

This is an absolute shocker!!!!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I WANT FREEMA!!!!

It's a reference to her chavvish character in The Catherine Tate Show, who's (unfunny) catchphrase is "Am I bovvered?".

Precisely. One of the shows on TV that I'd have to think twice about in a choice between it and Big Brother is The Catherine Tate Show.

I can see that CT has a lot of talent, but not as a writer. A good director should get a good performance from her. I hope.
