OK. End of Days was much better than most of the Torchwood episodes, apart from Cyberwoman which remains my favourite so far.

I couldn't quite rate it a four, but it was better than Captain Jack Harkness. Mainly because the blinding anomalies of 1940's reactions to both Toshi and Jack just didn't convince me.

Bringing the Black Death to a 21st century hospital was an inspired piece of thinking, adding an extra dimension (excuse the pun) to the traps of unregulated time travel.

Unfortunately, the last ten minutes seemed just a little rushed to me. There was one fleeting reference to Abbadon by Ianto early in the episode, but the appearance of the creature and Jack's immediate inspiration of how to destroy it were too sudden for me. It didn't really have time to build suspense.

The reversal of the Sleeping Beauty tale at the end was cute, but that's all it was. Too obvious and too coldly realised.

The CGI Abbadon wasn't up to the standards of Doctor Who, and it looked a lot like the demon in The Satan Pit, but then the budget for Torchwood seems to be way less than Doctor Who. Still, pretty good though.

Favourite headline on the news broadcast at the start of the episode "Beatles on the roof Of Abbey Road studios".

it was pretty good but even on its last episode of this series i found only one or two characters remotely likeable ..most of the team are such ****wits that i couldnt care if they lived or died. i will say that i was happy with the ending.

I hope that Jack's first episode back in Doctor Who continues right on from where this left off complete with a pre titles sequence of him rushing through the doors saying "Doctor! Rose! am i glad to see you!..............ummm..who the hell are you people?" then bang onto the theme tune Smile i'm such a fanboy...

I thought it was amazing, although I am easily pleased. I can't wait until episode 11 of Doctor Who this year Smile

I'm sorry but although quite entertaining the whole plot was a series of set pieces cobbled together. The dialogue was very patchy.

Good performances,a bit of shonky script.

Ending was great but.

3/5 fair

I totally agree with Todd.

There is so much more that can be done with this episode. It felt rather empty and rushed. The demon at the end looked really wobbly. I thought the plot could focus more on the what was coming out of the rift rather then just mentioning it. Maybe this is because it was just expensive to realise this on screen. I found the whole of the season a bit dissapointing. I thought it was a team dealing with Alien investigations, threats and defending earth but there was very little focus on this. I think if my partner wasn't so inter Torchwood I would of given up half way through the season. Only two episodes stood out for me and that was "Cyberwoman" and "They Keep Killing Suzie". All the rest left me feeling frustrated wanting the plot to be expanded. Maybe I'm just looking for a Dr Who clone. I don't know, but this is always how I felt at the end of every Star Trek the Next Generation Episode in the early 90's. Anyway, still a hell of a lot better then the rubbish that's on Australian TV (apart from Dr Who).

Hugs

Brilliant beginning!

Loved the idea of people being dropped off randomly in interesting places. Loved the idea of the plague emerging in London. Loved the tension between the team and the ghosts being used to lure them to act.........

But what an awful climax! We had an old dude who had been an awesome and sinister threat suddenly quoting something from an episode of Buffy and a demon???? or something else that seems to have popped through from the buffyverse. What Bollocks!!! And exactly how did Jack kill it?? And what was with the sleeping beauty stuff???? How did that work????

Im the most forgiving fan of all things DW I know but that was an awful conclusion. Not even the happy noise at the end can undo the dismay this episode filled me with. Surely there could have been something a little more alien and threatening lurking in the rift.

A very disapponting effort.

To use the Tenth Doctor's word of magnificent. This has been a magnificent end to the first season. Absolutely shock to see Abbadon looking like the Beast ("The son of the Great Beast says Bilis") in Impossible Planet/Satan Pit from the parent Doctor Who series.
Surprised but delighted to hear an apparent reference to House from Owen.
I have a feeling this is not the last time we will be seeing Bilis.
A perfect end with an apparent tie in to Jack's upcoming appearance in the 2007 season of Doctor Who.

I have I question for you. Did you hear Bilis in toward the end of his dramatic monologue say, "Abbadon ... son of the Beast."?

I actually though the CGI for the Beast in Satan's Pit was better. I liked the ending though and when I say ending I mean the bit at the very end when Jack is picked up by the Doctor. You would think being members of Torchwood, the rest of the team would know who the Doctor was.

I also agree that this episodewas better than most of this first series.

Yes, If I remember well there were several other descriptions of satanic characters as well.

The end of the episode and the CGI seemed to me to be rather rushed. I think they were running out of money at that stage, but all in all, the episode was nearly the best of the series. I still like Cyberwoman better.

With a bit of luck, the second series will establish a more stable base than the first.

My reason for pointing that out was to rationalise why Abbadon might share similarities to the Beast.

Ahh. A family resemblance. Yes, he does have his father's eyes.

Did Ianto blow his nose into Jack's jacket at the end of the story? If so, does that mean Jack spent the entire three-parter of Series 3 of Doctor Who with snot on his neck?

This didn't relly feel like a finale to me. It wasn't very climatic (though I was quite surprised at Bilis killing Rhys) and the ending was too rushed. Oh, and I really didn't need to see Rhys's bum. But apart from the it was a good episode though.
