STAT!
You know, as eternally glad as I was to see Micallef back on our boxes (barring appearances on Thank God You're Here), I was worried this would be the less funny version of CNNNN. Wrong. In a day when the Chaser boys are more pranksters than satirists (stolen quote from a newspaper, but it's true), actual satire is rare to come across - and Newstopia fills that gap wonderfully. And, being a Micallef programme, it also has:
a) Jokes about how TV shows are filmed.
b) Tension between the lead characters (his interplay with the sports presenter is a joy to behold).
And I never got sick of that drugs joke, even though they did it about five times.
In all, this shows great promise, but is already incredibly funny. Ah, Micallef's back and kicking - celebrations at my house*!
*Though none of you are invited, cos I don't know you. |

| 10pm Wednesdays on SBS. Strange, I know, but it actually works (particularly when he does Inspector Rex parodies). |

Hahaha, yes. And the other interview, where she completely takes over: "Because let's be honest, this isn't an interview at all..."
Incidentally, for anyone reading, there's an episode on tonight! Don't miss it (if you're interested, obviously)! |

Episode 2: Roz Hammond is back! ROZ HAMMOND IS BACK! I almost jumped for joy when I saw her. Unfortunately, she was listed as guest cast, but I'd be overjoyed to see her return.
I love the British reporter that Micallef voices - all that stuff about "putin and rice sounding delicious". Other great bits included the John 07 sketch, the opening disclaimer, the "are ads on SBS intrusive?" gag, "F**king hell!", "So you still think they're responsible?" "No, I think they were very irresponsible", "I still wake up screaming", the nodding sycophants, and... ah, heck. The entire package.
You know, I'm really enjoying Wednesday nights at the moment. Considering, you know, the Chaser, Summer Heights High and now Newstopia (incidentally, why have we never had a proper thread about either of them? That strikes me as strange).
Speaking of the Chaser... they make the news yet again. |

I love how the Demoncrats candidate never gets to say a word
They may be overusing that clip of the guy taking drugs just a little, although it was clever to use it to explain John Howard's spaz attack in the debate. |

Ha, yeah, the drugs thing may be a bit tired... though I must admit that I couldn't stop laughing in the first episode. Still, you know.
I noticed there was no Sports Presenter/Martin Polesy (spelling?) this week. In fact, the only regular "segment" this week was the "Micallef interviews himself" one, which was, as usual, funny. He's so patronising, that Micallef (character).
Somehow, I missed the fact that Daina Reid was on the show - which is odd, considering she was a fairly integral part of The Micallef P(r)ogram(m)e Series 3. Still, I suspect, from memory, that she was the reporter in the iGun report... which was also really, really funny.
Oh, and no Inspektor Herring this week either... although there was another Dictators and their Pets ad (or whatever it's called). |
