| BTW, my local ABC Shop was selling "Ultraviolet" on DVD last time I was there, about a month ago. |

I must say those cat-people MUST be related to those of Survival. I would even go so far as to believe that New Earth is the exact same planet and the cat people evolved or something. It's nice how the last ep was ironically named Survival, DW did survive, came back and even the cat people made it out.
I'm disappointed with the sick people. Why give every one every disease? Wouldn't it be easier, more logical and actually possible if each person only had one disease? How would mixing all the cures together cure any of the diseases at all? Surely that would change the chemical make up and negate the healing properties of the 'goops.'(And they looked like packs of jelly.) And tranfering the cures, which are fed in with drips, by touch is just silly. (I suppose if the cures were simply 'pure bacteria' that would spoil my last two points) Also the instantaneous disease-riddening doesnt make sense.
On a good note, it was fun to see those old characters again. It was annoying to not find out what the Face knew. I didnt get how Cassandra survived. I didnt get how she tranfered her mind, first with some machine and then without.
I think the 'New New York' joke was done in Futurama or something.
But all in all I enjoyed it and on the standard 'Turkey to Excellent' scale I give it a Good. |

| did anyone else think parts of the "intensive care" section of the hospital looked suspiciously like the Nestene consciousness' lair from last season? |

I did. My wife also commented on the similarities. |

Like the trailer for it which came immediately after the broadcast of The Christmas Invasion.
It is TV WEEK's highlight of the day for July 15.
Clare Morgan at the SMH Guide gave it a thumbs up saying it is hilarious. She explains the meaning of the word "chavs" and said think Little Britain's Vicky Pollard.
(The SMH Guide also featured briefly news of Freema Agyeman's casting.) |

| Hours ago just prior to the repeat of The Way We Were: Flying saw the "What About Sexy.." ad of New Earth and it was quite enjoyable. |

| New Earth wasn't so good second time round. The story seemed to be just stupid and I got almost no emotional value out of it at all. |

I thought it was a good episode - much better than Xmas Invasion IMO. I too noticed the Nestene lair similarities, and like others, picked out some flaws, but was impressed with how the TARDIS and the Cassandra storylines were intergrated.
7/10. |

I liked it, but that could just be because I've been craving a Tenth Doctor episode where he's awake. I think you have to have something to compare it to in order to really rate an episode. At least that's how it is for me anyway, and I'm virtually spoiler free for this season so.. *shrugs* I've no idea where this ep would rate for me between the rest of the series two episodes.
I liked Billie Piper as Cassandra, her mannerisms were so different from Rose's, I felt it was totally believable that she was another person entirely.
What in blue hell was the point of The Face of Boe appearing at all? And I may have missed something, but why didn't he die after all? The cat nurse said that old age was the one thing that they couldn't cure.
I thought Cassandra turned around and changed her opinions in the end rather quickly for a selfish murderer. And I'd expected that when she spoke to her past self at the end that the past her wouldn't really have cared when she collapsed. Bit weird.
I really liked the disinfector in the elevator. Imagine having one of those in your bathroom! It'd save me so much time when drying my hair and we wouldn't need washing machines and dryers... |

It was his message through the psychic paper that brought the Doctor to New Earth.
Maybe he was tired for the first time in his life (because he's never slept before) and thought he was dying. After having a nap while the Doctor was downstairs he felt better and told the Doctor to stuff off.
Then again maybe he knew what was going on and just faked being sick to make the Doctor come by and check it out for him. He is just a face after all.
Were the Boe people giants and he couldn't save his body so he preserved his head? (like cassandra)
I find it hard to accept a race of heads |

I enjoyed the episode a lot. It was lighthearted and a lot of fun! The Cat People were great, interesting to see how the world evolves after a few million years. Loved the concept of them using the specially bred humans as treatments for other people. Very sci-fi stuff with lots of action as they try to get away from them.
I loved how Rose and the Doctor have become more comfortable with each other, it's good to see she truly is a companion now. I thought it was so cool when the Doctor knew she wasn't really herself. Shows that they know each other very well by now. Overall, cool episode! I can't wait for next week now and the week after... and the week after. Hehe. |

I wish more fans would watch the show with this attitude rather than wanting to critique RTD's writing all the time.
New Earth was enjoyable and light, and the scene at the end with Cassandra holding her dying future self in her arms was very touching. |

I agree.........I actually had tears...the irony of herself/chip saying she was beautiful.....and when Rose kissed The Doc and he quoted that "I've still got it".....frankly I take it for what it is....not the technical side or the mistakes or the what ifs.....I'm just enjoying it......and we're not far off from what the nursecats are doing now anyway....it's brillant |

I loved parts of this episode. And was disappointed with other parts. I thought the whole story was a bit rushed and the Fix was a bit too easy. There were some embarrassing bits and bad lines like most RTD stories but in general it was great. Although the Cassandra to Doctor to Rose to Doctor etc was a bit over the top (I hope you all know what I mean by this).
The great bits were really great though, The Cat nuns looked fantastic, Billie was brilliant as Cassandra (and looked very nice too) And while the whole Face of Boe bit was a bit weird I think that it must be a set up to something in the future, like maybe this years Bad Wolf.
But the best thing for me was David Tennant. he is just perfect as The Doctor and he makes the whole thing just so watchable. I love the way he seems to add some Ninth Doctor touches while still being his own man it makes the whole change easier to accept. For example the whole end bit where the sick got cured was just like the end of 'The Doctor Dances' and to me at least, David was so Chris like in his reaction that you could be forgiven for thinking that he was playing out the same scene.
Not the best episode, but the good bits were very good.

Rose reacts likes she is on an alien planet for the first time even though in Boom Town also written by Russell T Davies, she told Mickey about being on another alien planet.
It was a good thing that I had seen this episode before because my niece was very noisy during the first 20 minutes.
Laughed when the Doctor said "Still got it" after being kissed by Rose, when Cassandra in the Doctor called Rose, Goldie and the word "Chavtastic".
DWM used to have a subheading "You'll like this if you like" in its preview of new Who adventures for the books and audios prior to the new TV series. This told people that they would like this particular adventure if they like certain other shows or books which has similarities with it. If DWM still had that subheading for the TV episodes I have a feeling it would have included House for its preview of New Earth. This is because just as the episode was about to end, came the thought into my mind of it being House, Doctor Who-style especially with the incubated humans having every disease known to exist.
Despite being thought of as the Bad Wolf of this season there was no mention of Torchwood in this episode.
As with The Christmas Invasion last week, the trailer of Tooth and Claw at the end featured Pauline Collins the night before she was seen in Bleak House.
Here is a curio, the Doctor says the word "new" twice consecutively when saying "New New York" and "New new Doctor", well in The Saint episode The Power Artists which was on UKTV after the Doctor on the ABC it too had Simon Templar using the word "new" twice consecutively. In this case Simon says "New new Scotland Yard". |

The Doctor says he is the New, New Doctor. He could of said that he was actually The new, new, new, new, new, new, new, new, new Doctor.
That would of messed up Roses head. |
