Last night on an ABC ad, I noticed that The Last Detective starring Peter Davison previously shown on 7 was included as one of the programmes to be shown next month.

Presumably the ABC is picking up where 7 left off last year.

The Last Detective will debut on Saturday June 17 at 9:30pm but the description of it at the ABC link which Cyril Washbrook has already posted at the Holiday for the Doctor section sounds like the very first episode. This means that unlike The West Wing, the ABC is showing The Last Detective right from the beginning.

This is still good news for me because Channel 7's Sydney station had a blackout for much of the early part of the first instalment. I finally get to see what was in the missing bits.

Last night prior to ABC News saw the preview of The Last Detective and it was quite good. It included showing Dangerous Davies finding out who the guilty person is but of course ABC viewers don't know yet.

I already know from seeing it last year on 7.

As I said missed out on much of the beginning due to the blackout on 7's Sydney station last night. So last night finally got to find out how Dangerous got to investigate about Celia.

Watched much of the rest again until I had to changed to UKTV+2 to watch The Saint. Funnily enough 10 minutes before The Saint started I was flicking between the two channels. When I first flicked on UKTV+2 there was Paul McGann on Hornblower. Meaning I saw Peter one moment then Paul the next. Nothing like that has happened before for me.

Remarkably I got to see the preview for The Last Detective that was shown on Saturday three times on that very night.

The first was prior to The Christmas Invasion, then when I finished watching Creature Features: The Machines which I had recorded last Tuesday as it came afterwards (incidentally after the BAFTA Christmas Invasion ad) and finally when prior to The West Wing which I recorded last Thursday.

Despite being advertised as a 4 part series, the fifth episode will still be shown this Saturday meaning it would be the first episode that the ABC has broadcast which not previously shown on Australian TV.

Christine:
As I mentioned before, unlike the previous four episodes, the is the first episode being shown on the ABC that has not been shown anywhere else on Australian TV.
Had no idea until Dangerous pointed it out about the guy having an alarm clock and sausages instead of real dynamite.
On initial impressions of Christine she did not look upset with her husband's death.
I was quite shocked that all of a sudden appearing as Pippa Sterling was Jo-Anne Knowles who I am currently seeing in her regular role in Mile High which is being shown on 7. Here in The Last Detective she has a very Basic Instinct type scene.
Absolutely amazing how Dangerous figured out the husband's death.
So hideous seeing Mod posing for art.

Dangerous along with Veronica Mars are the TV detectives that I am currently watching.

Also the preview for next week features Lynda Bellingham. Not only was she the Inquisitor in Trial of A Time Lord but she was also Peter Davison's co-star in At Home With The Braithwaites.

Oh yeah it seems we are pretty much the only ones with UKTV.

The Long Bank Holiday:
Peter Davison reunited with his At Home With The Braithwaites co-star Lynda Bellingham.
Surprise to see Mod as a candidate for election. His promise includes a 24/7 library. That is an excellent idea.
Tracy Ann-Oberman (Mandy) will soon be seen in upcoming episodes of Doctor Who. It is therefore curious why DWM when reporting on her appearance in Doctor Who did not mention about her appearance here in The Last Detective with Peter Davison.
Shock on seeing the skull.
Unbelievable that Mod was handing out election flyers at a crime scene!
"Jesus" carrying the Cross. What exactly was the relevance of this?
Figured out shortly beforehand on who the killer was.

Benefit to Mankind:
I definitely enjoyed this one.
Noticed Doctor Who guest stars David Daker and Alan David.
Amazing the true circumstances of the death of the two medical researchers.

Found out that the season 2 final next week is the final for the ABC for the time being. Looks like we are going to have wait for the already broadcast in the UK season 3 as well as the yet to be shown at all season 4.

The season 2 finale on August 5 came in at third place in TV WEEK's highlights of the day. Interestingly it beat Doctor Who: Girl In the Fireplace by two places as it came at fifth place.

Dangerous and the Lonely Hearts:
Season 2 finale.
Funny that Dangerous' car got clamped and it was done by Mod who says that he thought the car looked familiar.
Shocking when Natalie was found dead.
Shocking that Gavin laughed upon hearing Natalie's death.
Surprised to see Revelation of the Daleks guest star Colin Spaull who incidentally will be in next week's Doctor Who episode Rise of the Cybermen.
Shocked on seeing Paddy jumped.
Funny that Julie says that men are such bastards to Dangerous before offering him a cuppa.
Figured out it was Green who killed Natalie over a violin. Of all the things to die for.

The voiceover at the end credits says that The Last Detective will be back after the new series of Parkinson. At least we know for sure that it is coming back.

Found out from Who Magazine that Parkinson season finale will be on Saturday September 23 meaning The Last Detective will be back the following Saturday on September 30.

Last night after At The Movies saw the ad for The Last Detective and it promoted the fact that he was the fifth Doctor Who. The voiceover mentioned him as Doctor Who being together with the doctor from Heartbeat (Niamh Cusack) and the priest from Ballykissangel (Stephen Tompkinson).

Friends Reunited:
Knew beforehand that Niamh Cusack and Stephen Tompkinson was going to be here but came as a complete surprise to see Gina Bellman and Steve Pemberton as well. In fact I shouted out Gina's name upon seeing her name in the credits.
In contrast to her role in Coupling, Gina is very good in a dramatic role.
Funny that Dangerous and Julie tried to get to know each other again.
Overall a good start to the season.

Next week Peter will have a clash with one of his successors as the Doctor because at 9:30pm 7 has scheduled the movie If I Had You starring Paul McGann and this year's Christmas special guest star Sarah Parish. From the description If I Had You is also about a detective and also about a school reunion as well like Friends Reunited.

There's also another Klash with UKTV repeating 'ROSE and 'The end of the world, between 7:00 & 8:30...
'With Rose's final-episode in the middle of that at 7:30 on ABC.

Plus 'The repeat again of that on UK-TV+2 at '9:00.....

I guess you can say it's going to be a `4-Doctor's night!

Towpaths of Glory:
Quite a funny beginning.
Recognise Charles (Craig Thorn) from Rocketman which was on the ABC some months ago.
A bride appears here. Coincidentally a bride also appear in Doctor Who: Doomsday which was on the ABC just a couple of hours before this episode started.
Really didn't like Julie dancing with that other man.
Enjoy listening Staying Alive in the background.
Very plot convenient the way Dangerous found that gun.
Funny when Dangerous set off the fire alarm.
The truth about Frank Moore's death was not something I expected.
Mod got dumped. Poor Mod.
Funny bookend to the beginning.
