Sorry but I thought it was rubbish. A big let down from New Earth IMHO.
Didn't care much for Queen Vic either, dunno if it was the writing or the actress but she just came across as sour and stale.
It just could have been done so much better IMO. It did appear rushed from my point of view. |

You want maybe Queen Vicki to be a ditzy blonde?
Sour and Stale are a couple of her official titles, along with "Victoria, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Queen, Defender of the Faith and Empress of India"
I thought the portrayal was spot on personally. |

In a word, wow. I'm not a disliker of Russell's work, but up until now he hasn't scripted the standout episodes. But Tooth and Claw has to be the best episode since The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances.
I have high hopes for the rest of the season now... yay!
Incidentally, the portrayal of Queen Victoria was indeed spot on. If you read Empire of Death, there's another example of her spirituality and awareness of the supernatural... and the scene where she knighted then banished them seemed perfect for the Queen.
One question though, what happened to the Monks? Why did they run away if they wanted the Queen dead?
Oh, and how on Earth can the royal family be werewolves? All to facilitate a cheap shot... ah well, I'll overlook it in the general triumph of the episode. |

No, but I would have liked her to have a bit more 'personality' ...
Besides Dr Who has never portrayed historical figures accuratley.
I'm pretty sure Nero in the Romans is nothing like his real life namesake.
I know someone who has a 7 year old and she was really bored with this episode.
New Earth was far more entertaining and accessabile for kids IMHO> |

Fair point. Sour and glum is however a 'personality' after all. I should know about that!
The idea of a TV show is to entertain after all. However, being a TV show, the producers and writers are going to use the general public perception of an historical character.
Queen Victoria is almost always portrayed as the dour old, post Albert dowager version. At least with Vicki there are some reasonably good contemporary accounts of her style, as well as a huge number of portraits.
Nero on the other hand has had his image tarnished for well over a thousand years. He's more of a quess than Vicki will be for anoyher thousand years. |

| Oooh, FREAKY! I loved this episode and I think it was the scariest WHO ep I've seen. The scene where they are all in the "mistletoe room" listening to the footsteps of the Werewolf - sends shivers down my spine it does! |
