I was playing an old school game called "Swiv" last night and I noticed the default high-score screen had the names of the first 7 Doctors! That was so cool, the game developers must have been Who fans.
Are there any other Doctor Who references in games, TV shows, movies etc that you can find? |

I remember playing an old game (can't quite remembr the title - I think it was 'Hugo's House of Horrors II') and there was a part where you could walk into a phone booth, dial a given number, and end up on an alien planet surrouned by Daleks. (!)
It was a total dead end to the game - as soon as you got there you were exterminated - but it was a fun little extra, again no doubt slotted in by some Whovian programmers. |

| Sci Fi Saved My Life is a documentary series that has been shown in the Discovery Channel looking behind the facts of some of the popular science fiction movies. I just finished the episode about Men In Black and late in this episode it had a Dr Mark Lythgoe who is a neuroscientist at the University Cambridge London Hospital. He talked about the prospect of seeing aliens when all of a sudden on-screen there was a flash of a picture of a Silurian. What an unexpected delight. |

In a follow-up to this in the episode about The Terminator the episode talked about a miniature tank known as the TALON a picture of which is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foster-Miller_TALON
Since it has wheels narrator David Mitchell asked whether it could climbed up stairs and it is shown that it could with Mitchell saying "TALON 1, Daleks 0". Obviously he hasn't seen Remembrance of the Daleks and for that matter the current series as this documentary was made this year. |

In last night's season final of Extras with Patrick Stewart, a toy Dalek appeared. This was in the scenes when Andy was in a meeting with the BBC executives about making his sitcom and the Dalek is very visible in the background.
Quite a nice surprise. |

Beazley laughs off Labor infighting
Labor leader Kim Beazley has laughed off the latest round of party infighting - a scathing attack on "soul-less" factional powerbrokers by Victorian heavyweight Robert Ray.
Senator Ray, a Right faction powerbroker who admits to being involved in every factional stoush of the past 32 years, said Labor would continue to struggle federally until talented newcomers could push out the "control freaks".
He described his Victorian counterparts - Stephen Conroy from the Right and Kim Carr from the Left - as "factional Daleks" - robots hellbent on world domination.
"A whole production line of soul-less apparatchiks has emerged; highly proficient and professional, but with no Labor soul; control freaks with tunnel vision; ruthless leakers in their self-interest; individuals who would rather the party lose an election than that they lose their place in the pecking order," Senator Ray told the Fabian Society in Sydney.
He said the Liberals were perceived to have more credible leadership, a better economic record and much more credibility than Labor on national security.
"It does not matter whether these perceptions are fair, accurate or induced by propaganda. They exist, and are currently preventing Labor from achieving office federally," Senator Ray said.
Mr Beazley said Senator Ray made some good points about the need for strong candidates.
But he laughed off the reference to Daleks from the long-running television series, Dr Who.
The Daleks were known for their catchcry "Exterminate!" but Mr Beazley said it was not Labor which was in danger of extermination.
"The only thing we're going to exterminate is John Howard's industrial relations laws," he told reporters in Brisbane.
But Prime Minister John Howard said Labor would never regain its economic credibility if it continued to attack the industrial relations changes.
"There is no greater issue going to economic credibility in Australia at the present time than the debate about industrial relations," Mr Howard told the Cairns Chamber of Commerce.
"And I would say to my political opponents, you have no chance of regaining economic credibility whilst you promise to roll back this essential reform."
Mr Beazley defended Senator Conroy and Senator Carr but agreed that Labor needed good community-based candidates and good policies directed at the real needs of the Australian people.
"Senator Ray is a member of the Labor Party in very good standing and a personal friend of mine, and Senator Ray has the best interests of the Labor Party at heart," he said.
Senator Conroy refused to comment on Senator Ray's speech but admitted to being a Dr Who fan.
Labor's foreign affairs spokesman Kevin Rudd, often touted as a leadership challenger to Mr Beazley, said he would not speak about internal party affairs.
"I am confident that Labor will present a competitive edge at the next federal election," Mr Rudd told reporters in Brisbane.
"When it comes to our internal arrangements, I will let Senator Ray speak for himself. I don't propose to add to that debate." |

The factional Daleks comment was played in this morning's Insiders on the ABC while Matt Price in his usual column in today's Sydney Sunday Telegraph also mentioned it and also writes this:
"Dalek" will be added to "rooster" in the anti-Labor lexicon". |

Seems half the Labor caucus are DW fans!
Taken from "Meet the Press" yesterday:
"BRAD NORINGTON, THE ‘AUSTRALIAN’: Good morning, Greg. Mr Tanner, during the week we heard Victorian Labor heavyweight Robert Ray describe the faction bosses in your party as "Daleks" - the sinister exterminators from the 'Doctor Who' series. Now, was this a case of the pot calling the kettle black or - and, for that matter, was Senator Ray right?
LINDSAY TANNER: I think Robert must have been spending a bit too much time in the TARDIS, frankly. But, look, we've always had these issues in the Labor Party."

| Yesterday between 6:30pm and 7 I turned on the telly to wait for ABC News. When I turned it on it was on 10 and Neighbours was on. The scene that was on at that particular time had Susan telling Karl that she was seeing a Doctor Little and Karl replied "Doctor who?" Susan then said no before repeating that doctor's name. Now if this was not a Doctor Who reference but just a simple clarification of a doctor's name, why would Susan say "no" first prior to saying that doctor's name? |

| I saw that. It most certainly was a reference to Who. It sounded exactly like the real thing. |

This was taken from today's Crikey newsletter, written by their national affairs editor, Christian Kerr:
| Quote: | | Davros forum. Communications Minister Helen Coonan had a curious contretemps yesterday with her opposition counterpart Stephen Conroy. She paraphrased Robert Ray and called him a factional Dalek. Which she pronounced “day-leck”. Coonan obviously isn’t a Dr Who fan. She must think the Daleks are a clan from somewhere in what used to be Yugoslavia tied up in ethnic branch-stacking in the Melbourne burbs. |

| Suburban Shootout which debut on UKTV last night had the character of Pam walking into a house when she commented on its size by saying: "It's like a TARDIS in here." |

Is it just me, or was there no actual mention of the Daleks (apart from the bit about genetic engineering)? |

Actually Seven's Sunrise played clips from The Dalek Invasion of Earth The Daleks' and other bits n pieces of Dr Who for this 'Factional Daleks' story above on their Sunday Show. It was the most funniest thing I've seen on Sunrise. They even used the original Title Sequence. I thought that i had record it but recorded the wrong channel 'Exterminate Me" |

i was watching mr bean for the first time. it was Merry christmas Mr Bean and teh best nativity scene in the world-had a Dalek in it!
mary and joseph are looking at jesus
one of the wise man couphs and the others tell huim to shush
there is a marching band and joseph tells them to shush then some sheep come along and the sheperd heards them into a truck, which drives off and a littler lamb is left behind. a delek comes and exterminates teh lamb.
a t-rex comes, mary screams and a tank comes to fight the t-rex. the tank calls another tank for backupand the dalek helps exterminate the t-rex.
during all the commotion, and angel connected to a helicopter airlifts baby jesus to a room in a nice doll house.
this is where Mr Bean gets busted playing with the toys and tha shop person brings a little policeman toy in and clears his throat
also, in the labrynth, there is a thing where one can only tell the truth and one can only lie- tell me if i'm mistaken, but didnt the 4th doctor meet something like that?
there were also these thisng going through the caverns, killing everything in their path- cleaners oor something. if that doesnt remind me or 'paradise towers' with the seventh doctor...
and there was that fell with a bird on his head. sure, the guardians in 'enlightenment' with the seventh doctor's hats didnt talk, but there was a BIRD on his HEAD! |

| If people remember that prior to the screening of the 2005 season on the ABC, the commercial stations were showing the ANZ ad which featured a couple of Daleks at a call centre along with the Lost In Space Robot. Well while watching Point Pleasant on 7 this morning, this ad returned. Well sort of. The reason why I said it was sort of is because the Daleks were missing from the ad. It just had the Lost In Space Robot and other robots. Looks like someone must have told the Terry Nation estate about this. |
