If anyone has been watching channel Ten lately, you might have noticed an ad for a new show called 'Tripping Over'. Featuring in this new series is none other than Paul McGann , playing a character named Jeremy. It is an London/Sydney production.
I don't mean to be obvious about this, but he has been in a lot of shows lately! |

As I mentioned in the If I Had You thread, I saw an ad of it while watching House a couple of nights ago.
It will replace House in its 8:30 slot on Wednesday October 25. |

Who Magazine has given it five stars and the "PICK OF THE WEEK" label.
Here's what the last paragraph of the review says:
"Told with sass and humour Tripping Over brings together some wonderfully down-to-earth and gutsy performances from a young and energetic cast. It's a guaranteed passport to fun." |

For the first time in bloody ages I'm tempted to forego my traditional ABC viewing on Wednesday nights, and watch this instead. There's something indescribably odd about seeing Paul McGann in the same show as someone like Lisa McCune... or maybe it's just me.
One thing that does bug me, though, is the look of the bus shelter ads I've seen for Tripping Over. There's a distinct lack of McGann there which I'm quite disappointed about. |

Unfortunately Paul is not that well known.
Episode 2 on November 1 is TV WEEK's Pick of the Day. |

| I'm definitely going to be making an effort to watch this - and it does seem weird going back to Ten after snubbing it all those years ago... |

I saw the ads and kept thinking "I know that guy...." then bang...Paul McGann...but there was no mention of him....hmmm...love my House but looks like I'll be watching this show whilst wearing a small black armband in memory of House till he comes back on....or just wait till I get my new 6 episodes of season 3 of House |

While Paul McGann had been mentioned in some of the reviews I have seen none of them mentioned that he was the Doctor. That is until this morning when Lisa Power in the Seven Days guide from the Sydney Daily Telegraph wrote this:
"Former Doctor Who star Paul McGann features as Ned's cuckolded father." |

Well, that was a bit... bizarre. I suppose the best praise I can heap on it is that I watched the whole thing even when McGann was off the screen. That said, it helped that that kid off Always Greener was on it. He's very cool.
This seems like an interesting show though, so I might stick it out.
EDIT: One thing that did crack me up was McGann saying "I'm f***ing sterile". For a start, it's the Doctor swearing. But secondly, the line makes sense if you take it literally or at face value. Funny. |

Paul did say the "F" before in the Withnail and I. So does not come as a surprise to me to hear him using that word here in Tripping Over.
Episode 1:
Paul McGann gets the "And" credit and his character sure gets a shock.
I really did not like Tamsin's dad.
I have been reminded that Kathryn Drysdale (Lizzie) was Bliss in Love and Monsters.
At the same time Lisa McCune was seen here she was also seen in Forensic Investigators on 7.
The scene with the ferry got my attention the most.
Overall a solid opening to the series. |

| Episode 2 on November 1 gets four stars from Who Magazine and it is its highlight for that day. The magazine also has an interview with Abe Forsythe and Daniel MacPherson. |

Episode 2:
Very good in looking at the aftereffects for the characters following on from the first episode.
Somehow a moment beforehand it became obvious who Ned's father really was.
The next episode will be at 9pm next week. |

| The next episode on November 8 gets three stars from Who Magazine and it is its highlight of the day with the review saying that much happens in it but it is oddly unsatisfying. |

To my surprise there was an encore for episode 2 last night as I thought that The 4400 was going to be shown.
Episode 4 on November 15 comes third place in TV WEEK's Pick of the Day. |

Episode 3:
What an awkward interview with Eva.
Ned and Lizzie meets Dave's family and the only I can say that came out of it was "What!!!"
The ending seemed very abrupt. |

| I sat down to watch this last night. I thought it was OK but I wish they could hold the camera still. I was almost sick when the woman wanted Paul to smile. Also it seemed like their were too many characters as I couldnt remember who they all were. |

Episode 4:
This episode is good for much of the second half. Definitely better than last week's episode and Paul is pretty good as a lawyer. |

Episode 5 on November 22 gets four stars from Who Magazine and it is its highlight of the day and it has the following headline:
Working holidays can be hell.
Also this morning I finished the DVD, Big Finish Talks Back -Paul McGann as Paul talks about his career. It is a pity that this was recorded in December 2001 instead of more recently as I would have liked to know what it was like for him working on Tripping Over. |
