Believe it or not I have only watched the first series of this a few days ago. Where have I been all these years!!!!
I had no idea why the dvd asked the question at the beginning, 'Are you local?'
The 'No' option is a crack up!!! |

The 'No' option is fabulous.
I've eaten at a fish and chips place on the South Coast of NSW which serves local seafood. I keep dreading being asked whether I'm local as I'd probably be stuffed in the deep fryer, but so far I've passed without this happening.
It's one of those shows that either up the stakes or lowers the tone of comedy (possibly both), which is a good thing in my book. Far too much comedy is very very safe and seems to generate humour by being unthreatening. It's shows like this that shake things up and expand the frontiers of what is 'acceptable' as comedy - after a few gasps of horror from some members of the audience get drowned out by other people's laughter.
I really must get around to seeing the recent movie, The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse some day... |

"In fact, in a rather amusing accident over there, Tom Baker sprained his ankle on that very rock. Just goes to show how easy the accidents happen..."
I still can't wait til they get back together again. Apparently if they do a fourth series, they'll start afresh - no Royston Vasey, no returning characters. This may wrench the heart at first, but consider just how much they've changed the series over the years, from the grossout/comedy of Series I, the carnival/comedy of Series II, the horror/comedy of the Christmas Special, the drama/comedy of Series III and the self-parody of Apocalypse... I honestly can't see how they could go wrong. As much as I like Mark Gatiss' writing for Doctor Who, he needs to get back to the LOG, priority. |

| I'm vaguely remembering that Gatiss named characters after Pertwee stories (The Green Death mostly, I think) but I can't quite remember... other than that, I've got no recollection of any. If I think of any later I'll post them. |

Erm, well, Papa Lazarou pops up a number of times - and it's been ages since I've seen it, so I've no idea when the TARDIS is in it! But Papa Lazarou turns up in the following episodes (I'm not ruining this for potential fans am I?):
Series Two - the first episode (the carnival one, I forget what it's called)
Series Three - How the Elephant Got its Trunk (I think it's called that)
The Christmas Special
The League of Gentlemen: Apocalypse
I'd say it's probably in the Series Two episode (the TARDIS), but I really have no idea. Sorry, lol. |
