|

I liked The Runaway Bride a lot more than The Christmas Invasion personally. I liked TCI, I just preferred this one.
Catherine Tate I could happily never see again, and I am so glad they didn't cast her as a permanent companion. I mean really, how could anyone put up with such an opinionated and LOUD person in the TARDIS? (Easy! No smart comments please!)
I suspect she may make another appearance though.
The Racnos Empress was perfect for a Christmas special. Big, scary and just a bit pantomime. I nearly shouted out "He's behind you!" When Lance was creeping up on her!
It was a bit of a given that he was a bad guy really. When he made Donna a cup of coffee without ever having spoken to her was a clue.
The car chase was brilliant. I could just imagine wanting to be one of the kids in the back seat of the car if I was 8 again.
Bring on season 3. Sontarens (if I'm not mistaken), Face of Boe and the Black Dalek. It's looking good already. |

The Runaway Bride was ok. On par with Christmas Invasion for mine. The TARDIS chasing the cab worked very well - could've been a disaster.
Was that the Sontarans? It looked like them, but I think we would've already have heard something about them being in the new series. IMO the Sontarans still hold up and would fit nicely into the new series.
With the recent DVD release of Mark of the Rani and the upcoming Keeper of Traken, Logopolis, Castrovalva and Survival, I'm beginning to get the impression that we may soon see the Master in the new series - or am I reading too much into it?? |

PS - Unless I'm mistaken I think that was that the first time "Gallifrey" was mentioned in the new series.......

I really enjoyed this episode, and thought Catherine Tate was hilarious as the bride...although you probably wouldn't want to meet her in real life.
The Racknos looked, well, fantastic. And the symbolism with her spaceship as a big star in the sky for Christmas was amusing...wonder if it had three wise men following it?
I also think we'll be seeing Sontarans next season - although we didn't see any in that trailer. The Sontaran looking guys were those rhino-headed things in armour I think. I do wonder if we'll get a season of new DW without an appearance by the daleks though. |

Personally i found this to be pretty average, i mean there where some alright moments but more often than not it just made me cringe (especially those kids in the back of the car going "YEAH! she jumped all right!"......UGH)
But the star ship thing was pretty cool and i think it's probably the first time the military have ever actually defeated something in DW? |

| I loved it. It was fast paced right the way through and there were a couple of good twists. The trailer at the end was exciting. Are they Sontarans or not? |

I saw or read a breif interview with RTD recently when he was asked about whether the Ice Warriors would be in Season 3. He said he loved them, but they wouldn't be in S3, and he also said that thus far they've not managed to keep any monsters from the classic series a secret...which is what I think they're trying to do with the Sontarans, and having the Judoon look so similar to Sontarans is a bit of a red herring. Maybe.
Edit: I just had a quick look at the Wikipedia entry for season 3 episodes, which states:
| Wikipedia wrote: | | David Tennant and other cast memebers confirmed in an interview with Newsround that, obviously, Martha Jones replaces Rose as the Doctor's companion, they visit Elizabethan England, go to a hospital on the moon, go to to the year 5,000,000,043, even more distant planets and there is a monster from the past that NOBODY will be expecting to see again... |
That would imply to me that maybe we won't be getting Sontarans. Personally, I'm hoping for Zygons |

It could be Zygons, because there's a 10th Doctor Zygon book coming up and I was wondering how they were going to explain this to a new audience. Then again, they fill the same sort of role as the Slitheen don't they (although they're better)?
I quite liked The Runaway Bride, and I did enjoy it more than The Christmas Invasion, despite Catherine Tate. Boy, did the Doctor sink low when he invited her on board! Rebound from Rose means he'd choose anyone I guess. The trailer for Series 3 looked promising - Mark Gatiss in full-on Dr Chinnery (the Victorian one) mode, the Sontaran lookalikes (not sure if they're Sontarans though)...
As for the Master though with the DVDs, I've heard it stated that the classic series DVDs aren't tied in with the new series. Even the recent Hand of Fear to School Reunion was a coincidence. If Sontarans appear next series, then The Sontaran Experiment is another huge coincidence, it seems...
There was really only one thing about The Runaway Bride that I didn't like. And that was the music. I just wish it would be quiet. It was bloody hard straining to hear the dialogue - if we didn't live in an age of DVDs and subtitles then I'd be lost forever. |

Yes the music was quite annoying wasn't it?
I think Murray Gold needs to realise that it's not "The Murray Gold Show" with moving pictures and that there is actually dialogue there which we need to hear! |
