Im the president of the Adelaide Gaol Preservation Society. The Adelaide Gaol is a museum and tourist attraction. Anyway, we've been trying to think of ideas to get people in the door, as we survive on what we charge for admission. My idea is to to throw the site open to special interest groups, hobby clubs and so forth. No charge or a token fee. They get a spot within the Gaol (we have individual yards, cell blocks, rooms and all sorts; its a huge place) for a specified time. This would make it an interesting place for people to visit, helping us attract more visitors. The clubs get to show off their interest, look for new members, do a bit of fundraising and so forth. And have a bit of fun, of course.
What do you think? Would any Adelaide based Dr fans like a public space to promote their interest(s)? |

You know, this could be entirely appropriate - fans could spend as much time in gaol as the Doctor does.
Er, sorry, I don't live in Adelaide, that's why I can't answer you seriously. It sounds like a great idea to me though. |

Haha, thanks 'Sulp'.
Funnily enough it did occur to me that the older series'es did involve the doctor spending a lot of time running around dark corridors and rooms with no windows in them (ie - BBC sets), so we probably could create an atmospere like that! |

| I'll put it to the committee of the SA Doctor Who Fan Club, but we've already been invited to a theme evening there and the answer was "no". |

| mmm, interesting Martin, a theme evening? First Ive heard of one of those. Well anyway, yeah that would be great if you could put the idea forward. Times, the space you want, and length of time there I'll let you think about. |

As I recall it was a catered evening in the gaol--before my time on the committee.
But at the same time I did the tour and highly recommend it, particularly to those who want to take naughty children with them. |

The SA Dr Who Club/SFSA committee meeting of 17 February 2007 saw the body express interest in such an event, and requests for more information (such as price).
The structure of the meetings is a formal gathering at Adelaide High School on the third Saturday of each month except December when we have a picnic instead. There is an informal meeting at a pub on the first Saturday of each month, two months at the Buckingham Arms Hotel in Walkerville and the third month somewhere else. A meeting at the prison would fit in the "somewhere else" category, depending on other details.
Martin. |
