| As much as I love Tom Baker, I just love the Tenth Doctor more. He's got a mix of all the previous Doctors in him as well as the wackiness of Tom Baker. Which Doctor did you vote for? |

Look, I know I'm in the "Classic" area here, so don't crucify me but I went with David Tennant (although it was a very close call between him and Tom Baker).
Seriously though, would you look at how many votes Eccles has? He's okay... but the best? What's going on there? |

Eccles is probably doing very well because he is the "current" Doctor on UKTV. In any case, I think he was great!  |

What do you mean he's the "current" Doctor? Are they re-running his season over there or something?
I don't know, I guess I like Tennant better than Eccleston because he was actually a Doctor Who fan as a kid, and that enthusiasm really comes through in his work. He even wrote an essay at school about why he wanted to be the Doctor one day.
Eccleston said he only did the show because he wanted to try out "kids' tv". That sort of lowered my opinion of him a bit.

Well, the poll is called "Vote for the greatest Doctor Who of all time", not "Which Doctor Who had the best motives for taking the role", so I think judging his Doctor on a "kids' TV" remark is a little unfair. 
FWIW, I ended up voting for McCoy, although having looked at the running tally I'm very surprised at the results. T Baker and Eccleston are WAYYY in front of everyone else (39.2% and 46.3% respectively), with third place going to David Tennant with 7.5%(!)
PS. I couldn't help but laugh at this bit from the Sixth Doctor's blurb:

That's what I meant. I don't think they have shown the Christmas Invasion or series two yet. But I could be wrong! |

I don't recall seeing Eccleston make this statement anywhere. My understanding is that he said he took the role because he wanted to work with Russell T Davies again.
There are varied stories about why Ecclestone signed up for the role, and why he gave it up. Personally, I believe:
- BBC wanted Eccleston because they needed an actor with a real profil;e to ensure the show was taken seriously.
- Eccleston signed up because it was a Russell T Davies show.
- Eccleston, Davies and the BBC were happy to have a one series Doctor. Eccleston because he didn't want to do more, and Davies and BBC because it gave them a great end-of-season cliffhanger and they got to introduce the concept of regeneration in the first series.
- Similarly, it suits Tennant, Davies and the BBC to have the 10th Doctor last for multiple seasons because it give some stability to the show.
While I cabn see why people voted for Eccleston as their favourite Doctor, I personally voted for my favourie: Patrick Troughton, arguably the best actor to have taken up the role, and the first Doctor I watched on TV. |

Yep, you're right Greg, he did say that he wanted to work with Russell T again. It was in the special features of the Eccles boxed set. But in that same interview, he also said that one of the reasons was to try out children's television. I remember, because it took me aback a little. I'm a teacher, so I know lots of kids love watching Doctor Who... but I wouldn't have exactly classified it that way. There's an entire army of adult Whovians out there!
Classic Doctors aside for a second...
Eccles was an okay Doctor, but I like giving points for enthusiasm (there's the teacher in me coming out again!). I got a kick out of seeing Tennant bragging somewhere, "I get my own TARDIS!" I think that's how any of us would probably react if we got that role  . |

I'm disturbed that Paul McGann was last... is there anyone who actually hates the 8th Doctor?! The best Doctor ever, seriously.
As good as Tennant is, I have to wonder why he's first already... I mean, he's only done a season. I didn't consider McGann to be my favourite after seeing only the TV Movie... it took the audios, the books and the comics to finally cement him as my favourite. So why does Tennant get first when his Doctor is nowhere near the end of his road? (And yes, I know McGann never regenerated and he's still going, but he has a much wider catalogue).
Ah well, congrats to Tennant anyway. He's a pretty good Doctor all round, just not the standout in my opinion. |

Tennant's not coming first... he's coming 3rd, behind Eccleston and Tom Baker.
I see what you mean though... the classic Docs aren't doing too well are they? Come on boys! Level the playing field a bit! |

Whooops! Just realised I was talking about entirely the wrong poll. I'll hang my head in shame. I was talking about the one that they mentioned on Outpost Gallifrey and I got confused... well, okay. I take back what I said, sort of.
Is McGann even a "classic" Doctor? He seems to be the nowhere Doctor, stuck in limbo between two generations... Anyway. Ignore my stupidity. |

He was the one that in my eyes really cared for other races (apart from David Tennant as he has parts of all doctors) instead of saving them then going. |

I object to the common view of "wobbly sets" - particularly in the 60s and 70s, and then again in the late 80s, they were actually some of the best sets of their era!
My theory as to why Christopher Eccleston is doing so well is that the radio buttons are directly wedged between pics of each Doctor - so some might not be able to tell whether they should be clicking the radio below or above their preferred Doctor. Thus, a large proportion (let's say, half) of people who would have voted for Sylvester McCoy accidentally voted for Christopher Eccleston !

| Although Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant are my fav Doctors I did feel sorry for the great classic Doctors so I chose Colin Baker because hes the only Doctor to spend 20 minutes chatting to me |

| Jon Pertwee gets my vote. An intelligent and resourceful Doctor, without any odd little quirks (apart from his costume). |
