Curtin, the TV movie about wartime Prime Minister John Curtin will be on the ABC this year. Here's the description of it from Michael Idato from the SMH Guide:
"Curtin (ABC)
William McInnes, Noni Hazlehurst and Geoff Morrell star in this telemovie about the career of World War II Australian prime minister John Curtin and his struggle with his personal demons and the nation at war."
So far I have seen a couple of clips of the movie from an ABC ad and McInnes looks convincing as Curtin. |

| Just before The West Wing this morning saw a new ad for Curtin which began with it stating the year 1941 (which is when Curtin became Prime Minister) and saw a lot more of what is going to be in the movie. Quite impressed by it. |

Finally finished watching Curtin today this ANZAC Day.
I thought the performances were good and I have to say I was quite surprised on where the scope of Curtin ended.
For those interested in Prime Ministers, aside from Curtin, past and future Prime Ministers who were mentioned or seen in this film were Billy Hughes*, Jim Scullin, Earle Page, Bob Menzies, Artie Fadden, Frank Forde** and Ben Chifley.
Also appearing were Bert Evatt, later Opposition Leader and Eddie Ward. A lot of people today may not know who Eddie Ward was but an interesting fact about him is that in 1960 he was defeated for the Deputy Leadership of the ALP by one Gough Whitlam.
*Although the actor playing Hughes was uncredited, had no lines and his name was only mentioned once on screen from a conversation between Curtin and Menzies, I recognised him based on historical pictures that I have seen of him.
**Like Hughes, actor playing Forde is uncredited. |
