I have a feeling there was a thread like this before, but I couldn't find it so... here it is!

I've been dying to get this off my chest, though. My two favourite candidates for the role are Robson Green (Wire in the Blood, The Rocket Man) and Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty, Hamish Macbeth, Hitler: Rise of Evil and more).

Green just strikes me as a Doctor from the get-go, yet somehow manages to not feel too Doctor-ish, unlike, say, Alan Davies as Jonathan Creek, and therefore could go on to play the part without comparisons between the roles.

Meanwhile Carlyle has never played anything like the Doctor as far as I've seen... but he has a variety of roles and he's awesome at all of them. Keep in mind that Eccleston never had any Doctor-ish roles either; in fact Carlyle feels to me like the Scottish version of Eccleston.

So there's my 11th and 12th Doctors, which I'll be so disappointed if they don't cast... what about you guys? Agree? Disagree? Any brilliant candidates I've missed? Should I be thinking of women playing the Doctor?

(If I think of another person who could play the Doctor, that'll be a bum; I've only allowed myself the 11th and 12th due to my "no one should play the 13th" stance)
