| Marc McEvoy of the SMH Guide has given it the thumbs up. Incidentally just as we are about to wait for the Doctor's confrontation with the Daleks, today August 8 is the birthday of Dalek creator Terry Nation. |

Just before a repeat of The Einstein Factor yesterday saw the ABC trailer of The Parting of the Ways with it being promoted the "SERIES FINAL".
Just as the first season is about to end on the ABC, last night on Dead Ringers there is a sketch on why Chris quit after one season. "Chris" (who can briefly seen in the title sequence) denies it is because of fears of being typecast but because he came from the North and even said a line that sounded like it came from The Second Coming. Then we see "Chris" going home to his family which happens to be a Star Trek family which included a very young Worf and 7 of 9. The Star Trek dad (Jon Culshaw who himself played the Tom Baker Doctor on the show) was very upset about it. So "Chris" appeases his father by saying he would quit after one season. The father is pleased until "Chris" tells him that his agent got him for a blockbuster - Blake's 7 the movie!!! The father then tells his wife to get his phaser and not to set it on stun. |

Larissa Dubecki gives "Parting" a fairly positive review in today's Age (though with gritted teeth) although she can't help making some smart-alec comments about the show, including her comments that the sets look like they were designed by "first year O-level students" (How rude!) and Chris' departure to pay his "mortgage" after one season! Why can't some reviewers accept the show is bloody good without the bitchy qualifications!
She even has a go at the fans calling us trainspotters! I don't really care about that but be fair to the show! |

POSSIBLE SPOILERS
I haven't seen this episode, but received this link which contains a song that I believe is based around the plot of the story. Or not. I'll know after I've seen it on Saturday! |

i was listening to a jazz radio show in adelaide when I heard an add for a new smart merc. benz with the Doctor Who theme music.
then, back on the radio show, the announcer said to tune in to the ABC at 7.30 saturday for the final instalment of the NS of Who!!!
Great (supposedly) free publicity |

Any sci-fi, fantasy or comic book related thing ALL critics will try and put down. Even when LOTR was released, you read reviews where critics tried as hard as they could to find fault with the films. (My personal favorite being "Jackson should have made hius films in proper sequential order, making The Hobbit frist, instead to starting with its sequle." )
It only one persons opinion and if she was right, Doctor Who would not be the phenominon it is. The shows success speaks for itself.
But MAN I can not wait for 7:30 tongiht! |

I'd have liked it more if they'd given the dialogue greater prominence in the mix. There were plenty of times where I wished I could rewatch a bit or have subtitles so I knew what was being said!
Other than that, I think it was good - but need to digest it more to say how good and why. |

I really liked it too but some opnions:
- dialogue drowned out by the score was annoying
- could have seen more of the Doctor in pain when he closed the vortex
- leaving Jack behind was a Tegan type thing but I hope when he comes back he is not very happy
- Bad Wolf...hmmm...liked the idea that she/the Tardis sent herself this message BUT why the term BAD WOLF, it could have been any phrase. I think there needed to be a greater link at somepoint where we saw a reason for Rose choosing that phrase.
- I thought Chris, John and Billie were excellent (esp Billie)
and the Weakest link thing was fantastic!
- I like the regen and can't wait for more David T. |

My theory is that was actually the real name of the corporation. There had to be a point where Rose would see that name and use it to give herself clues, and that was the point where she was able to do it. All the other times we saw and heard the words was as a result of Rose sending the Bad Wolf name through time and space. |

I actually liked the kiss that Jack gave to both the Doctor & Rose........and can't see the bad side.........thought it was tastefully done and cute...........and l loved how Rose's mum and the other guy.....even though they might have lost her were determined to help her get back to the Doctor............was sad..........very mixed emotions for me
does anyone know when the new series is coming on and also the Christmas special one?????????? man...........l'm hooked have even started buying the books.......... |

I prefer "opp" as in opposite as "Not" sounds very silly.
For the first time ever we see a Dalek in the TARDIS although this had already been done in the novel War of the Daleks & the audio The Mutant Phase.
A completely new look for the Dalek Emperor.
As Jack says Rose is worth fighting for.
So Rose is the Bad Wolf.
Impressive the floating Daleks in space.
Laughed when the Anne Droid blasted some Daleks but sadly she got blasted in turn by a Dalek.
Roderick had it coming as he got exterminated.
Was hoping and glad that a Dalek said "My vision is impaired.."
Sad that Lynda got killed and then Jack but thankfully he brought back to life by Rose.
The sight of Rose as she was being consumed by the vortex was stunning.
Unlike the TVM, there is a plausible explanation why the Doctor kisses his companion. Four days after the Fourth Doctor's regeneration into the Fifth, the Ninth does the same as Chris turns into David Tennant.
This is actually the first time we seen the Doctor regenerate while standing up and that flame was as he changes his appearance was totally unexpected.
In a James Bond type credit the credits says "Doctor Who will return in The Christmas Invasion."
Voiceover says that the Doctor Who legend continues with the reruns on Monday to Thursday.
What trailer was shown: The Canterbury Tales featuring Billie was shown before The Parting of The Ways & after the episode was shown came the Colourful Nights line-up which includes The Canterbury Tales.
My regular viewing of watching the ABC at 7:30pm ends after an unbroken 23 weeks with the 13 episodes of the new Doctor Who and the 10 episodes of Monarch of the Glen before that.
Before and after this episode was shown had a another look at Chris in The Second Coming as I still can't believe that to Australian viewers he is now a private citizen (my definition of private citizen here refers to anyone not involve with an official BBC production of Doctor Who at the present time).
More than an hour after The Parting of the Ways ended I saw the Doctor's ITV rivals Ant and Dec on Parkinson.
Just after midnight I had TV on when Rage was on which I normally do not watch when all of a sudden two songs that is definite of interest came on. The first was Doctor? by Orbital which shows images displaying on the screen just as their version of the Doctor Who theme was playing. This is the version that was used for the 40th anniversary montage included in the 40th anniversary DVDs of the classic series.
Following on from that came Doctorin in the TARDIS by The Timelords which had a couple of funny looking Daleks.
This week the classic and the new series saw the changing of the guard with the arrival of Peter Davison and David Tennant respectively. Tennant's casting is reminiscent to Davison's back in 1981. Peter Davison made his acting debut in a guest stint on The Tomorrow People which ironically was meant to be ITV's answer to Doctor Who. Prior to being announced as the Doctor David Tennant was in the live remake of The Quatermass Experiment which is ironic since Quatermass creator Nigel Kneale is a well known critic of Doctor Who.
Another thing that links Davison and Tennant together is Blake's 7.
According to Paul Darrow in an interview with SFX a few years ago Davison was about to appear in Blake's 7 but got cast as Doctor Who instead. (Darrow added that it was alright since he was also friends with Tom Baker). Although Tennant was almost 11 when Blake's 7 ended in 1981 for him to be able to appear on that show, he is however a big Blake's 7 fan. |

|

Well,
The series is over. From my point of view the last episode was the best episode I have seen so far. It looks like the put so much money into it. I turned off my mobile phone and took the phone off the hook and turned my entertainment system up very loud. It sounds good when you have a dolby home cinema hooked up to your tv. But the sad thing is what are we going to do son saturday nights now. It looks like I have to go out and meet up with all my friends again. I now have all the episodes on 2 videos and I'm buying the DVD's when they come out. All I can say is LETS HOPE WE GET SERIES 2.
See ya |

Wow! What a perfect finale to the season.
It was beautifully written and had some great plot twists, e.g. Rose being the Bad Wolf etc.
Great how Mickey and Jackie were written into the story. Their appearences made the story even better as a season finale as it had all the important characters from the season.
That was so sad when the Doctor tricked Rose to get into the TARDIS and then sent her back to her home.
Also, the incidental music was just great! it really added to the excitement of the episode.
So sad that we wont see any more of Christopher Ecclestons Doctor, but at least there will be some more books!
Again, ths might be spur of the moment, but this story is, at the moment, my favourite episode of the New Series.
BTW, That dalek song is great Greg! |
