And I thought it might make an interesting discussion for the forum.

What is your definition of a "Doctor Who Fan"?

Personally, I just like watching Doctor Who. I like collecting merchandise and old books. I am not really into audios, EDA's, PDA's or whatever else. I don't know who wrote which story or who directed what and I don't over analyze every episode. I just enjoy It. I consider myself a "Fan"

I suppose anyone who'd be sad enough to go on a Doctor Who forum - myself included - would be a fan, wouldn't they? There's different levels of fandom, sure. Obsessive fandom, analytical fandom. But it's all fandom.

I must admit though, I really don't like the term "Whovian". I wouldn't like to be called a "Time Lord" either, but, you know... I generally just say "Doctor Who fan". I think the other thing is that you say to someone, "I'm a Trekkie" or "I'm a Jedi Knight", they'll know what you mean, but if you say "I'm a Whovian" they won't.

Which comedian did you send the letter to?

For me, being a true Doctor Who fan means that your universe revolves around the show, and that's a definite with me. I spend the majority of my time on FanFiction.Net, either reading Who fanfic or copying Who fanfic into MS Word coz I can't be bothered to read it at that moment (I currently have over 3,000 stories waiting to be read). If I'm not doing that I'm writing fanfic, watching Who vids on YouTube or making Who vids (okay, so I've only made 3).

After each episode airs I'm always straight onto this site to talk about it and see what other people have to say. I also keep a lookout for Doctor Who references and post them as soon as possible.

I've currently had 28 dreams with a Doctor Who theme (I'll probably create a separate forum about them). In 3 of them I've dreamt the classics were on the ABC again at 6pm (I never got to see them), and another 3 have been about Series Three, which I haven't even seen! After seeig Doomsday I had a dream about lots of news reports about people seeing each other for the last time. It was only after waking up that I made the connection.

I painted my wardrobe like the TARDIS, I own 45 Doctor Who books (and will be getting more - I inherited some from my uncle who was a big fan when he was a kid; my local second hand bookshop sometimes receives some too), I have Doctor Who themed covers for my schoolbooks (actually they're all Dr/Rose), I've got a Dalek watch, a sonic screwdriver, the new series on DVD, I stuck the front page of the TV guide on my wall coz it had all 10 Doctors on it, and I kept the article (but I cut out the pics of David Tennant and stuck them in my David Tennant scrap book, which contains lots of pics of him and some amusing, slightly suggestive comments by me) ... need I say more?

But what if they don't watch the show, and only enjoy the books, comics and/or audios? I got my cousin into the show through the EDAs.

I just love watching the new show and I enjoy a Big Finish audio or a classic series story on the side.

The books are rather nice aswell
