I'd love to see the Time War done but not as a movie but as a mini-series instead. That way it could be stretched out appropriately and no details need be left out. It worked for Dune. The movie was too short to allow a full story to be developed properly but a mini-series did the trick.

I have nothing against David Tennant and Freema Ageyman on the big screen aslong as RTD and the BBC are incontrol over the direction and story. The BBC do create some wonderful films but I'd hate any Americanised trash. Greame Harper could direct and I think Russel T Davies and Steven Moffat should write.

Big names could be called in for guests such as Maggi Smith, Judi Dench, Ian Mckellen etc. If they wanted a big name director I'd suggest Tim Burton.

Now that I've dreamed I personaly don't NEED a film aslong as we have the great show. Wink

As long as the TV series isn't compromised I don't mind if someone makes a movie. I'm also happy to have the TV series, maybe the extra money from the film could be spent of filming more episodes a year. Dream dream dream.

As cool as a movie about the Time War would be, I agree that it would be better dealt with in a mini-series, maybe something 'Casanova'-esque [3 x 1hr episodes]. If it had to be a movie, a straight to DVD release would be best. And they should do it through Fox Searchlight or something so that RTD and the BBC could stay in creative control. I think I'd die if I saw the Doctor drinking a can of Coke or looking at something on the TARDIS's Apple/Sony Vaio monitors *shudders at the thought*

First of all I changed the name of the thread from "Will there be a movie in 2008" to "Movie speculation thread" as it is unlikely that there will be a Doctor Who movie next year.

In an update about Doctor Who getting on the big screen sometime in the future, Outpost Gallifrey reports that BBC Head of Fiction Jane Tranter refusing to rule out the possibily of a movie.

From an article from Media Guardian she is quoted as saying:
"I would not rule out a film version of Doctor Who, no."

Don't know if I should jump i here but.

Any feature film made can't ,at this stage, feature a classic Doctor. I'm not saying I don't want to, it's just because of the new series. Why do you think we never got a McGann to exelston regeneration in the first episode like we got in the tv movie. The TV movie was a backdoor pilot for a joint BBC/Universal series. RTD didn't because one of the reasons it flopped in the states was because it was very familiar to audiences. Hell when it first screened it was in the Tom Baker era and they showed Tom Baker's episodes. So having the lead character suddenly change roughly a quarter in, confused people so the switch off.

McGann has Stated that he would love to do the series again, so long as he doesn't have to were the wig. But the succes of the new series is down largely to not needing previous exposure to the classic series. The classic and cotinuety hasn't been ignored, just not needed to understand the show.

The first episode to feature a previous Doctor was a children in need special. A short story that isn't a pre requeist to watchig voyage of the damn or series 4. It was brilliant in linking the old with the new, but unlike SJS apperance, you do need some understanding of the classic series. Hence it hasn't been done as a maistream episode yet. Untill RTD moves on I don't think they'll have a classic Doctor in a regular episode.

So any movie will have to feature David or if he's moved on, the current incarnation.

How ever a mini-series with Paul McGann dealing with the Time War is still plausible. Thanks to BBC7 airing 8th Doctor audios (and co-producing the first season of the New 8th advenutres) Paul has been exposed to the current generation as the Doctor. He stated on numerous occasions that he would love to reprise the role on screen, as long as he doesn't have to wear the wig. It would also be a great way to tie up his Regeneration, if you can get Chris to do at least a cameo.

Ultimately I think the most realistic way off getting both a time war and regenration story is in alternative media. RTD signed off on a regeneration story in DWM's comic strip.
