Don't remember Coupling being mentioned - perhaps unsurprising that Stephen Moffat lips a few Who references into the series. Not the least being that one of the main characters is names Steven Taylor, so there's a running reference in every episode...

There was a Doctor Who reference in last night episode's of the Simpsons, Springfield Up.

From Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springfield_Up
"Homer seems confused by the concept of Declan's documentaries and mocks his English accent, eventually concluding that the disparate filmings are unified by time travel, and that Declan is actually Doctor Who."

Another thing is that Declan was voiced by Eric Idle who himself has been mentioned as being a potential Doctor a long time ago.

Being called Doctor Who is probably the closest he would ever get of actually being the Doctor.

You didn't miss much. (Transcribed from the subtitles).

Declan (talking about Homer's life): "You're not english breakfast, but you're not Lapsang Soochong either."

Homer: "Oh yeah. Check with me in eight years Dr.Who. I'll be kicking your ass with a solid gold boot".

And that's it!
Homer links being english with being "Dr.Who".
BTW: It's intended as an insult.

It'll be out on DVD in a few years you can catch up then.

Unless he's Doctor 11, or 12 or 13 or 14 or 15 or 16 .........

(And they will write around the 12 regeneration nonsense when necessary).

It's okay, I recorded the episode and ended up seeing it. Thanks anyway Smile

In The Sideshow tonight Paul was talking about how science ficiton writers have been employed to develop theories about the terrorists - "Which will be useful in the war against the Daleks".

I was shopping in Supabarn in downtown Canberra today. At the checkout, I couldn't help but notice that the person serving me had the name RANI prominently displayed...

Glancing around, I couldn't see anymore villains of yesteryear doing the same menial job while hoping for the call from Cardiff!

When I watched the extras for The Mark of the Rani, it was impossible to not note that Kate O'Mara had had some work done. Well, if it was Kate at the cash register today, she's had plenty of work done... or her disguise techniques include substantially reducing her height, as well as changing eye, hair and skin colour...

If she was wearing a leather outfit, she was doing it in much teh same way that Clark Kent wears the Superman uniform, under uninspiring normal clothed!

In an episode of Are You Being Served? Mr Lucas had just finished telling a rather far-fetched excuse to Captain Peacock. Mr Humphries commented that it "makes Doctor Who's adventures sound quite normal".

Ptooey. What a spoilsport. Ah well, it's only fair - the Master gets to play with the big guns, and the Rani becomes a checkout chick (which is what she always was, wasn't she? Sorry, bad pun).

Incidentally, I noticed one of the victims on Torchwood last night had the name "Rani".

EDIT: Why am I pointing out that there was a Doctor Who reference in Torchwood?

I understand you mention that in context of Greg mentioning Mark of the Rani.

Perhaps the name of this thread should be changed to "Whoniverse References" because I don't think references in related shows belong here.

I mean it is like noting the number of times that Klingons have been mentioned and seen in the post original Star Trek shows in the Star Trek equilavent of this thread.

I shan't be renaming it that because 'Whoniverse' is such a ridiculous and dorky portmanteau that I feel my fingers are very dirty from just having typed it, and consequently it's solvol and carbolic to clen them up before dinner tonight.

But Greg, you must love the term "Whoniverse" - it's the sign of a true Whovian!

I've seen references to the Springboks in an abbreviated form, as the 'Boks. A sporting team of little stone gargoyles may be amusing...

I found this Doctor Who reference on an alley wall in Mellville St Hobart a few days ago.......

Not the first time Doctor Who has appeared in politics and probably won't be the last.
