Laziness and it had a 'Christmas theme'.

I didn't like the robot Santas the first time round, and repetition did nothing but annoy.

It saved money to reuse props and effects, I'm sure - pity it wasn't something worth repeating.

I enjoyed this but it wasn't the best episode ever. It was nice to have the Doctor back but I felt it was weaker than the 2006 special. Didn't care much for Miss Tate or the Spider-thingy. Still, the TARDIS really had some cool moments and David is my favorite of the Doctors, so it was fun.

If what I've read isn't just hype, some people really aren't going to enjoy series 4. Ho, ho, ho ....

Official BBC announcements are usually not hype (although Christopher Eccleston might argue...).

If Tate becomes a regular it'll mark the downfall of the series! Evil or Very Mad

I actually quite like Catherine Tate and I thought the Donna character was good. Everything will be fine Smile

I don't get the anti-Tate thing. Reading the blogs and CIF in The Guardian over the last few days, the vitriol has been astounding. I mean, comparing her to Mel? C'mon people - nobody, and I mean nobody, will generate the brain bubbles Bonnie Langford managed to send searing through my cerebral pan with that screaming fit in Time and the Rani.
I kinda like Tate. Put it this way, I'm gonna give her a go. I remember loathing Sarah Jane Smith when I was a kid at first; by the time she'd settled in I was enamored with her. Could happen here too - there's something unusually beautiful about Catherine Tate.
But as for The Christmas Invasion, well, erm, ... yawn. OK story, lots of implausibilities and suspensions of disbelief, and yes, I know this is sci-fi, but nonetheless there were way too many moments of "oh, come on - seriously???"
And I'm hoping fervently that the last five minutes of this episode don't presage the general flavour of Season 3. If anything it seems RTD has decided to go even more emotional on us. I'm so over this existential bollocks he's infused the Doctor's character with. Rose is gone; get over it dude. I want to watch Dr Who, not Sex and the City.
Overall, a pretty average episode, with a decent story, awful moments of cloying sentimentality, and a score that would make Hollywood's soppiest composers proud.

No my cup of tea - but to be honest, it ws not as bad as I had expected.

It was merely shallow, superficial and stupid. Nice to see RTD being so consistent.

And what is it with the Doctor and farewells...? Once upon a time, the Doctor would be gone before anyone had realized - and yet these days, yu get the impression that he's planning to stick around untilhe regenerates!

The thing I remember most about that final scene was how much the TARDIS door squeaked - oil the damn thing you bloody twit!
