It was... alright. It's difficult to rate it properly considering the face of comedy today, particularly of the British variety. With shows like Little Britain and The Catherine Tate show dominating the airwaves, I have a feeling good writing is on its way out - everything relies on performance. That may sound like a good thing to some, but really, it's not. Without a good writer you simply don't have a series worth watching.

Hyperdrive was fine, considering what it was supposed to be. And let's be honest, it's The Office in space with a couple of Star Trek parodies thrown in for good measure. It's likable, but it doesn't try very hard. Probably because, you know, if it did, audiences wouldn't like it. I suspect this is to do with DVDs... now that people have the option to, say, sit down and have marathons of Red Dwarf and The League of Gentlemen (both superior to Hyperdrive and Little Britain respectively), TV comedy has become more throwaway. If people wanted long arcs, they'd buy a DVD. I'm sure that's what the current thinking is with those big bosses in TV land.

You know though, saying Hyperdrive was worse than Doctor Who was a grossly unfair statement when you consider that this week's offering was 'The Runaway Bride'.

Much as I hate The Runaway Bride, I'd rather watch it than Hyperdrive!

Really? Incredible. At least Hyperdrive doesn't annoy me to pieces...

On my first viewing I didn't really like "Hyperdrive" that much.

However on repeated viewing of Ep.01 I find it much better than I thought.

BTW: ABC2 started repeating "Spaced" on Sunday nights. If you've never seen it before, do tune in, it's great fun with endless references to all thing scifi ....

Better not watch it again then.

I'm starting to get a feel for the approach, the characters, and I'm finding it all quiet funny. All the rather absurd references to all the cliches you find in every sci-fi program of this type.

"They have shot the Commander with a kind of dart".
"They have shot Mr.York"
"They are reloading their crossbows".
"I'm just waiting to see what they do next".

And the resolution to the crews stuffing up of the mission? Classic.

Must dash. "Sound Of Drums" & "Last Of The Timelords" have arrived ..

Weekend Off:
After the not so good first episode and the terrible second episode, this episode was pretty enjoyable.

I liked the rehabilitation cube. That was amusing.

Clare:
Sally Phillips was very good as Clare in a rather poignant episode.

Assessment:
Mostly dull finale to the first season but does bring an interesting set up for the second season.

Found out that series co-creator Kevin Cecil has revealed at the Camden Lock forums that the BBC has refused a third season citing insufficient ratings.

It is unknown when the ABC will show the second and last season.

The answer to this question is no as UKTV will be starting the second and final season tonight Monday July 7 8:30pm making its Australian TV debut straight to pay-tv.

Green Javelins:
Season 2, Episode 1.
Not a very good beginning to the season.
Teal's ex makes for an unispiring villain.

The Admiral's Daughter:
Season 2, Episode 3.
Mostly an enjoyable episode feauting the the title character.
Perhaps the best episode of the series so far.

Harvest:
Season 2, Episode 4.
This is perhaps Sandstrom's best episode with her fighting the red robots.
Jeffers died and comes back to life again. Honestly I would not miss him if he had stayed dead.

Convoy:
Final episode.
Interestingly it included the Miss Marple theme from the series starring Joan Hickson. Miss Marple was of course created by Agatha Christie and she will turn up in The Unicorn and the Wasp this weekend.
So ends a pretty unspectacular series although it did had a surprise from an unexpected villain plus I laughed when Henderson was called stupid.
However I won't miss Hyperdrive.
