James Marsters (Spike in Buffy and Angel) is a guest star in season 2:

James Marsters is not the first Buffy star to be in the world of Doctor Who as Tony Head (Giles in Buffy) was in Doctor Who in School Reunion and currently in the animated adventure The Infinite Quest as well as the audios Death Comes To Time & the Excelis trilogy.

I just found out to my surprise at Outpost Gallifrey that Alan Dale is a guest star in season 2.

I don't watch his current show Ugly Betty but I have seen him recently in The O.C. on Arena plus on Where Are They Now on 7 where he reminisces on his old show The Young Doctors. Nice for him to join the Whoniverse and he has now joined the list of actors to have appeared in both the Whoniverse and Star Trek as he had a part in Star Trek: Nemesis.

Outpost Gallifrey has recently reported that for his second script for Torchwood, PJ Hammond has revealed to the SFX blog that he has borrowed a plot element from his iconic ITV series Sapphire and Steel.
Hammond:
"I think one of my favourite Sapphire and Steels was the one with Mr Shape going in and out of photographs. Torchwood takes this a bit further and it's people coming out of moving films from the '20s. There are some lovely 'black and white' people in it."
This is Adventure Four of that series.

As the SFX blog has noted that particular Sapphire and Steel story inspired two recent writers in their Doctor Who scripts Mark Gatiss and Paul Cornell respectively with the faceless people in The Idiot's Lantern and the trapped-in-mirrors resolution to the Family Of Blood.

The name of the first episode of season 2 is called Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and SFX has given a glowing review of it:

No major spoilers but it does gives hints on how the episode will be played out.

Also BBC Two is planning to aired a cutdown version of season 2 for kids:
Each cutdown episode will air a few days after the original version:

No word on whether the same will be done for season 1.
