Following up on the earlier discussion on which existing new series character you'd like to see return as a companion, this discussion is about casting a new actor in the companion's role.
Tell us who (and include a picture, if possible); any noteworthy things you've seen them in; and anything about them that makes you think they'd be good in the role. |

And my choice is Stephanie Leonidas:
I have really only seen her in the movie Mirrormask, however she played the lead character and hence was on screen for a large percentage of the movie (and the companion in the new series is meant to be a co-star with the actor playing the Doctor...). She managed to convety a strong presence, despite many special effects.
The role required her to portray a character moving into a different world and not believing it, and later believing this world was real. There were a lot of effects, so she had to respond to things that weren't there in the filming. And she got to play the character being mind controlled and an evil version of the character, so that pretty much covers the usual array of situations you'd expect in Doctor Who.
AS well as movies, she's done TV (including an appearance in BBC's recent remake of Dracula), and she's based in th UK, so it wouldn't be any major problem in obtaining her services, if suitable.

Erm... Pia Miranda? Sorry, but I was watching The Chaser before and wondering where she's disappeared to. Although she probably would be good.
I'll think of a more serious answer, though. |

| Ah, thanks, Greg. Still must think of a proper answer, though. |

It would be interesting to have a companion who is actually older than the Doctor - in real life. Although we'll be getting that if Catherine Tate joins on a regular basis anyway...
However, if I must choose, I'll go with Keeley Hawes from "Spooks" - and the voice of Lara Croft in some of the more recent "Tomb Raider" games - and last seen on ABC TV in the thriller "The Best Man"...
Mind you, there is no reason why she has to play a Human companion...
