Welcome to Fight Club...

Not a great deal more to be said about this one, except that I couldn't believe how badly Gwen treats Rhys. And then to give him an amnesia pill after confessing that she'd been cheating on him...sort of makes you wonder why she told him at all.

How wierd. I happened to watch Fight Club yesterday just before watching this ep.

Dave makes a good point on Gwen. What a cow!!! Is there anything likeable about the Torchwood team?? They all seem like a bunch of selfish hedonistic ammoral no-hopers.

Is this the kind of 21st century world the producers of Torchwood are trying to get the viewer to accept as normal?

So far their status of 'outside the government' and 'beyond the law' has given the members of Torchwood nothing but misery, death and hopelessness. Oh....and plenty of same sex snogging, a supposed benefit.

I tend to disagree with you here, SJ (no surprises there! Razz) I'm happy to see a team who make mistakes, both in their line of work and in their personal lives. If Gwen was amoral, she wouldn't feel bad about cheating on Rhys now, would she?

Owen strikes me both as being mostly amoral and mostly hedonistic. Jack, for all his supposed omni-sexuality hasn't been getting around much at all, and Ianto was shown to be dedicated to a single person of the opposite sex. So it's not exactly been brimful of immorality, IMO.

I'm thinking more about Owen and Jack when using the word amoral.

Is Gwen really feeling bad for Rhys though? Or is she just smarting over the consequences? Slipping him the amnesia drug in this episode was a low act that made the confession meaningless and the betrayal complete.

Yes very fight club. Seen it on Angel years before.

But it held my attention and was a good outing.

Who'd have thought a Dr Who Actor could write so well. Well done Noel Clarke.

3.5 out of 5. an average concept executed well.

It was not as good as I expected it too be (I was actually much more impressed with the trailer of it) but it does get a passing grade from me.
I find this to be Burn Gorman's best performance in the series to date and what a surprise on what happened on his visit to the Weevils at the end.
I thought Gwen's use of the amnesia pill to Rhys was really reckless. Given what happened in They Keep Killing Suzie, Gwen should know better.

Highly unoriginal but it is a good first effort from Noel Clark. Nothing to be embarrassed about. If he comes up with an original idea next time I think he'll do much better.

Watching Combat again this time on 10, the episode is better than from my previous viewing.

I thought this was quite good. It was nice to see a bit more of the Weevils, and I liked that Jack got a bit more action than he has been.

In the commentary for Combat, Chris Chibnall asked whether the balaclava was enough to cover Alex Hassell's (Mark Lynch) face.

Didn't notice that it was him on first viewing but noticeable on repeated viewings.

It is too bad that the episode's writer Noel Clarke was not on the commentary or on the corresponding Torchwood Declassified episode.
