Hey, I'm Emily and I'm new here Very Happy

I got into DW with the new series in 2005, although I didn't actually watch it until early this year [I watched series 1 and half of 2 online].

I own series 2 on DVD, and series 1 is easily available, but now I want to get the classic series on DVD. I've had a look around on the internet, and I'm thoroughly confused

What's the best way to collect them? Are there box sets that contain the stories in order, or would I be better buying the single DVD's that are grouped by the actors?

I'm in melbourne, and Minotaur has a whole section devoted to DW [it's like heaven in there Cool

]. I've only seen a couple of box sets though.

Also, does anyone know roughly when the series 3 DVD will be released here?

The first 2 volumes of Series Three have been released already.

There are a number of ways to collect the DVDs. I recently came across a box set that contains the first 3 stories, so you might want to consider that. I know it's really confusing with so many box sets and so many individual DVDs, you've just gotta go for it.

If you can't get the DVDs, the classic episodes have been posted on YouTube (I've been watching them for months, and I'm still going!).

If all these methods fail you, try making friends with a random middle aged man who likes DW. I'll explain: I was at my local Recycled Reading bookshop, exchanging some books and trying to get some DW books in return. The shop's other customer also liked DW. As did the cashier. We got talking for a good 10-15 minutes, then I left. When I came back a month later, it turned out the other customer had brought in a classic DVD for me, as well as some books! For free!

With season three, I meant the box set, not the single DVD's. I think the box set is being released in the UK in November [?] along with a whole bunch of new classic series box sets. I'd rather wait for it to be released here though, because it's about 60 GBP, and then there's shipping!

Do you remember the name of that box set with the first three stories, montypython?

I think the season 2 box set was out in December locally, so don't be surprised if the season 3 set is out at teh same time this year.

With the 'classic' series (I hate that term!), stories are mostly released individually. The exceptions have been:

The Beginning - which contained the first three Doctor Who stories, An Unearthly Child, The Daleks and The Edge of Destruction - monty's kindly provided a link to this one above.

A New beginning - containing three stories some people refer to as 'The Master Trilogy', The Keeper of Traken, Logopolis and Castrovalva, so it covers the transition from Tom to Peter.

There are two more box sets on the horizon:

The so-called Tegan box set (not officially called that), which features Tegan's temporary departure from the TARDIS in Time Flight and her return in Arc of Infinity. This is came out earlier this month in the UK.

The Key to Time, which features the six stories from season 16. This one is due out next month in the UK.

There's only a short delay (a month or two) between UK and local releases in recent times, so expect these two out shortly in Australia.

Well I stopped by Minotaur on the way home today and picked up The Beginning box set. I've only watched the pilot and the first two parts of An Unearthly Child so far, and I'm enjoying it.

Being a DW fan isn't going to be cheap....there's so many books and magazines I want to buy. The other day I stopped by a newsagents to buy a train ticket and ended up spending an extra $45 on a DW Special Edition of 'Starburst', an SFX special edition and a 'Doctor Who: 1973 Collector's Edition' that covers the first 10 years of DW. And today I had to stop myself from buying a book that covers every televised story of DW from the beginning to Tennant's first season...that can wait until next week Wink

Can anyone tell me the exact number and names of the 40th anniversary DVDs? I have six currently and would like to know if there are any more.

I went to the Nowra ABC shop today and they told me that they didn't have New Begginings. So the lady checked out the order website and it wasn't there. Did I imagine this boxset?

I can't even check my local ABC Shop, as it is closed for renovations. However, as it looks to be at least half as big again...!

On the other hand - here for an online ABC Shop listing... Maybe the staff at ABC Shop Nowra are just bad at finding things on the net?
