Will there soon be a place from where I can download (paying for it, of course!) the last episode? We were out last night and - SHOCK! - we forgot to set the DVD to record the finale! ARGH! We have one sad little boy in our house.

That sad little boy isn't really your husband by any chance is he? Laughing

There won't be anywhere you can download Who _legally_ at any time.

All those torrent sites like tvtorrents.com and demonoid.com are sinful and evil, stealing hard earned income from the rightful owners of the programs. They should never be visited by anyone, and the people who run them should be severely castigated to within an inch of their.... Ooh, sorry, got into rant mode there for a moment.

The ABC are releasing episodes 8-10 on October 3rd, so the last DVD should be available at about the end of October. Otherwise, you could import the DVD from the UK where it's been out for months.

I found the word "legend" a bit weird, considering it had only been a year.

As for the TARDIS being a machine, pure and simple, the evidence of The Edge of Destruction (1964) doesn't tally with that, as the TARDIS endeavours to communicate with its passengers about the danger they are in. We have been advised many times that the TARDIS is alive, rather than just being a machine.

In that episode, the 1st Doctor thought it was a straight machine. However by the end his opinion had changed.

If these points aren't discussed in a Dr Who forum, then what is the forum for? Surely it's not a Dr Who/RTD cheer squad? (Don't take that as combative - just posing the thought).

Classic Who was not without it's continuity errors, but then it didn't rely, to the extent that new Who seems to, on a coherent story arc.

My issue isn't with pointing out things you don't like about the new series, it's the view that these things only happen in the new series and that it is all RTD's fault.

There is no coherent old series of Doctor Who to compare the new series with - there's a constantly mutating creature that, when it is revived, continues to mutate. Throughout its history, there's been good and bad aspects.

Because there are 26 previous series to compare to, then it is easy to point to series 16 (Key to Time) and series 23 (Trial of a Time Lord) for whole years where there was an overarching story arc.

After all, if everyone agreed with you it would hardly be a discussion forum!

More so, not only.

Rarely was it so, rather than three in a row with a series structure that relied more on it.

Hey! That was my point! Smile

Oh, I agree. But that's how everyone, from the people she meet to the Master himself have been treating her. "Martha Jones can do this", "Martha Jones can do that", "Martha Jones is the only one who can kill the Master", etc.

Martha Jones being just a motivater was lame.
The Doctor spent a whole year doing nothing!(presumably) How very unDoctoresque. I would have exoected him to break out in a few days.

If Timelords live 900 years per generation does that mean the full life can be 117 000 years long?

I too am dissappointed at the Master 'choosing' to not regenerate. Especially after the Doctor did that whole thing with "Destroy yourself. That's the one thing you could never do." I don't remember what the ring is about but I assume it means the Master is coming back and the Doctor doesn't know about the ring.

I still don't get why Jack can't die. Didn't he die in New Earth? Or was that when he used the transort thing the Doctor stole from him?
I guess it doesn't matter.

Tegan,

It really IS a little boy - my son! We are all fans but my dh and I are able to wait for the box set (which I think is only out early November in the UK). It's only 2.5 months until the whole box set is out here is Oz, and I always get a discount at the DVD store! Yay!

Thanks,
Fiona

I don't think they can live 900 years per generation, because when the 1st Doctor claimed his body was "wearing a bit thin", he was 400 and something years old.

In New Earth he told the Doctor that he'd given him hope to live on or something, then transported. He actually died in Gridlock

All men are little boys at heart. Rolling Eyes I just wish my two daughters showed the same interest in Doctor Who as I do, but at 20 and 21 I suppose I've left it a bit late to inDOCTORinate them.

I'll be importing the boxed set as soon as I can. Too many other bills to get it yet. They're always region 2 and 4 so I can't see any good reason to not do it. I suppose it depends on the amount of discount though.

If I can see it, I want it, and I want it NOW!

The Doctor explained this in Utopia. In The Parting of The Ways, Jack got killed by the Daleks. Then Rose looked into the heart of the TARDIS, absorbed the Vortex and used its power to kill the Daleks and bring Jack back to life, but she wasn't in complete control and brought him back to life permanently. Now he can't die, he's a fixed point in Time and Space.

ETA: you mean Gridlock? The Face of Bo did die. Also in Utopia, when Jack told the Doctor he couldn't die, the Doctor told him he was wrong.

Yes but, had he lived out the 900 years, he would have ended up a demented gnome man. Therefore, it would seem reasonable that he regenerates 500 years early. Like the euthenasia people.

So if Jack is the Face of Bo and the face of Bo had already died earlier in the series, and Bo was supposed to have been the longest living (the Doctor knew him from before) being ....then maybe Jack could be a Timelord?!

Huh?

I always thought it was pretty straightforward. Jack is born as a regular human in the 51st century. He joins the time agency and travels through time for a bit. He travels with the Doctor, gets killed by a Dalek, Rose brings him back to life and he gets stuck in the year 200,100. He goes back in time to 1869 and lives through to present day Cardiff, at which point he encounters the Doctor again. He then lives for another 5 billion years and for some reason becomes a giant head. Then he dies.

I don't think so. He hasn't been regenerating, just coming back to life. I think it was just whatever Rose did to him when she brought him back to life, but obviously he's not as immortal as he thinks.

And let's not forget that he is now capable of producing offspring:

"And on the Bad Wolf channel, the Face of Boe's just announced he's pregnant."

I remember that news item. Considering Jack's bisexuality, it all fits rather well.....he ultimately evolves into a reproducing-capable human male. Neat. Let a bloke find out what it's like. Laughing
