From Outpost Gallifrey...
'Today's Daily Star reports on a major end-of-season showdown for the Doctor and companions versus an old adversary. The story ties together several other rumours that have been circulating in recent weeks over who/what may be appearing in the 2008 series, but there is no official announcement for the Star's speculation.
DOCTOR Who bosses are set to call back FOUR of the Time Lord’s favourite assistants – including Billie Piper – for a sensational showdown. The old cast members will be reunited to help the Doc fight evil Dalek creator Davros in an explosive finale to the next series.
Leading the way in the line-up will be Billie (Piper) as Rose Tyler along with the rest of the Tyler family; they will hook up with the Tardis traveller’s latest assistants Martha Jones and Donna Noble. Also on hand to help out the Doc will be his old companion Sarah Jane Smith as well as Torchwood boss Captain Jack Harkness. Even the Time Lord’s dog K-9 will make an appearance.
The TV source said: "This is the daddy of all shows. The writer Russell T Davies really wants to pull out all the stops for the finale next year." '
...I can't stop laughing. I mean, come on. Russell isn't this idiotic... is he?
Actually, I should add that I have no problems per se with a huge continuity fest - ala 'The Five Doctors' - even though they rarely make for good stories. But as a season finale... the Tyler family, for god's sake. That is a huge amount of people for Russell to write for. Simply, he wouldn't do that, I seriously don't think he would. It's ridiculous. |

| Sounds like bollocks, but if it's true ... Christ! Why not just go all out with fireworks and dancers and call it the Dr Who Variety Hour? |

says the man with 2 pencils stuffed up his nose and his y-fronts on his head........sorry but I love your avatar and it brings back good and sad memories of the last episode.....esp. the part where they are going onto the field and Baldrick warns BA about getting splinters on the ladder...
if Russell can pull it off then why not..... |

| My personal opinion is that this reaks of overkill. RTD has a great thing going with his modern Dr Who and spin-offs but I fear he will risk milking it dry before its time if he intends doing these types of combined specials. Just stick to great stories for the three shows instead of trying to do major things like this. These sorts of mixed shows should be kept for special occasions when the companions he plans to bring back have had a chance to cool off. I feel that bringing back the Tylers is way too soon. They were really rammed down our throats and I haven't had a chance to stop being sick of them so I would not enjoy seeing any of them [except Mickey] any time soon. Leave them in the other dimension forever. As for combining the others.....I think Jack, Donna and Martha would be enough and it would make for a fabulous show if the story was right. I'd love to see Sarah back again but I think I'd prefer to have the Doctor turn up in SJA rather than have Sarah come back to DW. But if she did I'd still be pretty excited. |

I don't know if it reeks of overkill - after all, it is a story that isn't based on anything official.
Quite seriously, I hope that Russell treats his characters with a title more respect than jamming them all into a story where they won't have any opportunity to shine.
Let's face it, when Jack made his return appearance in Who they gave it three episodes. Martha is back next year for the last (I think) five episodes. The real stuff, he doesn't seem to be interested in brief cameos, which is all this rumour would allow, unless they are all in for five episodes! |
