| I started reading Human Nature again, and picked up on something that I missed the first time through. One of the instructions the Doctor leaves Bernice is to not let him eat meat. So has the Doctor always been a vegetarian, or did it vary from incarnation to incarnation? |

| If you watch the Two Doctors, at the end the Doctor tells Peri that from then on it's a strict vegetarian diet for the two of them. Maybe he stuck to that, or maybe that story just happened to have been written by a vegetarian. |

| Here's another question, that's off-topic I guess. How do the books stay in continuity with the TV show? Do they, or is it just the essentials that stay the same, and the rest is up for artistic interpretation? |

The Ninth Doctor did order a steak in Boom Town.
I don't think it was ever mention what the Tenth Doctor eats these days. |

| Don't know what the Tenth Doctor eats, but in terms of drinks, I reckon he's pumped up with red cordial. Does even odder things to people with two hearts, I reckon. |

| Couldn't it have been in John Smith's backstory that he was vegetarian? That doesn't mean the Doctor is. |

It hardly matters
Like most of us The Doctor has gone through different states of mind so it is possible his preference in food changes.
For instance Doc 6's promise is obvious long gone for as Doc 9 orders steak and considering Doc 10's love of chips which is often fried in animal fat rather than vegtable oil in Britain..
Personaly as I said it hardly matters as I'm sure The Doctor eats what he enjoys like most of us |

Does the Doctor actually eat the steak though (I haven't seen it for a while)? I mean, maybe he's eating meat like that to prove to Margaret Slitheen that he's a hard individual who'll be perfectly willing to let her die.
...Why am I theorising about the Doctor's eating habits? |

I agree, it isn't important, I just wanted to make sure the Doctor hadn't always been a vegetarian and I just hadn't noticed |

| There is that part of the Terror of the zvervoids where the Doctor genocides the plant people. That can't be vegetarian. |

Watched The Age of Steel again this time on UKTV and was reminded of the line in which the Tenth Doctor says when he and Mrs Moore were underground. Mrs Moore was looking in her bag and the Doctor asked whether she had a hotdog in there as he was starving.
Obviously he said that in jest but it could indicate that the Tenth Doctor is not a vegetarian at least at the time of this episode. |

Hmm, well that depends on whether you believe hotdogs are truly made of meat or not . |
