LILY ALLEN - ALLEN EYES DOCTOR WHO ROLE

Pop singer LILY ALLEN has been tipped to star in hit British TV show DOCTOR WHO. The Smile hitmaker, 22 - who will present her own BBC talk show early next year (0Cool - is hoping to expand her small-screen career by playing Doctor Who's assistant, a role currently portrayed by comedienne Catherine Tate. A show source tells British newspaper The Sun, "Lily is multi-talented. She comes from more of a TV background than a musical one. After (her) chat show we hope she'll take over from Catherine as Dr Who's assistant. "We've talked to her and she was excited by the idea. With Lily and someone younger and edgier in the lead role it could open up the show to a new trendier crowd."

I have just been checking out some stuff about her on the net. Not too many positives. I don't like this rumour Sad

The fact that it says she would love to do the role with someone "younger and edgier" for a "trendier corwd" send shivers down my spine. The whole idea of it being a bit kitch is part of what appeals to me about Doctor Who. Plus, she can be such a turd.

I just found out that Lily Allen is the daughter of Keith Allen, the Sheriff of Nottingham in the current version of Robin Hood.

Did it ever occur to me before that she might be related to Keith. A clue - no.

If that quote is suggesting a younger, edgier Doctor, then I'm worried too. I don't think the Doctor needs to appear any younger than Tennant or Eccleston (I'm not familiar with all of the other incarnations, there might have been younger ones). And what would be the point? A younger body wouldn't change the Doctor's personality. Of course, every actor has portrayed the Doctor in their own way, but the essentials of what make the character have stayed the same.

I assume the original post was quoting a "publicist". Defined as someone who knows even less about reality than the "*Star*" (the eponymous character in a fairy tale) they are publicizing.

The quote reads like an early outline for an episode of Extras. An episode rejected out of hand as being just too smarmy.

Trying to change the lead actor in a show that was well established decades before the undermentioned "*Star*" was even born, and before said "*Star*" has even approached the show to be included as scenery defies credulity.

Still, it seems there is a position opening up soon the be Paris Hilton's (an established "*Star*" if ever there was one) new pet puppy dog. Chihuahua's have such a short career span. A role Miss Allen may be suitable for.

For some reason, I just had a flash of William Hartnell using the word popinjay come to mind.
