I like to start off this thread of The X-Files by telling people about Create The Future the international fan letter writing campaign to ask Fox to make the second X-Files movie: http://www.createthefuture.gubblebum.net/
I myself have recently posted a letter to the Australian organiser of the campaign. So if Australian X-Files fans are interested in writing a letter to the campaign, PM me and I will give you the address of the Australian organiser.
Now when The X-Files was originally on Australian TV I hated the show since I am a Doctor Who fan (I have noticed through fandom that there are many Doctor Who fans who hate the X-Files). However in recent years my attitude towards the X-Files has changed (and this was before the similarly themed Torchwood came about) and I have since watched many episodes of the series.
Currently The X-Files is being shown on Sci Fi and this morning saw the season 2 episode Død Kalm. This is the episode that has Mulder and Scully with old faces and I have a picture of their ageing faces in the book that I have about sci fi shows.
Very spooky. |

I watched a couple of episodes in that free week of scifi channel. Having never seen it before I was surprised that while it was about extra terrestrial stuff moulder and scully never seem to get off the ground. And I liked that different approach to the idea. I wish I still had that channel (I noticed there was no DW on it)
on the movie. Having had so much time pass I suspect the style of the show would be very different and probably not the same so I'm inclined not to ask for a new movie. Leave a 90's classic in the 90's if you ask me

Charlie, there's no Doctor Who on the Scifi Channel, so you aren't missing out on it.
Now, The X-Files... There's this organisation best known by the acronym of its full name. A man works there, investigating strange events. His theories are unorthodox, and regarded with scorn by many scientists and government officials. Despite this, he is highly regarded by some and achieves results that others can't, even if not everyone believes what he says happened actually happened. He is assisted by a scientist, a red-haired woman who doesn't believe everything he says is true, and tries to bring scientific discipline to their work. As time goes by, she begins to see that much of what her colleagues says is true...
I am, of course, describing Doctor Who is season 7, which could be seen as a template for The X-Files. Or not.
A second movie? With the show so long off the air, you'd think that the major studios would be sceptical. However, that wouldn't prevent TV movies beig made. The real question is: are David Duchony and Gillian Anderson interested? I don't see it happening in any form without them. The relative lack of success of Chris Carter's other shows (Millennium, Space: Above and Beyond and Harsh Realm) and the often argued lack of success of the Firefly movie Serenity would seem to be reasons for the network execs to want the greatest chance of success before signing up for this, and I'd suggest Duchovny and Anderson would be requirements. |

Er...Chris Carter did not create Space: Above and Beyond. Space: Above and Beyond was created by Glen Morgan and James Wong the writing team who have written a lot of X-Files episodes. |

Oopsie. I've never seen it, I only recall ads that said it was from the creator of The X-files - maybe the ads said the creators?
Anyway, drop that and add in The Lone Gunmen (which I forgot earlier) and the point still stands with the same number of shows! |

Our Town:
A very good episode by Frank Spotnitz which has Mulder and Scully going into a town with a very disturbing secret and the episode ends on a very eerie note.
It's funny that I saw this episode just a week after Torchwood: Countrycide which is similar to this X-Files episode although the Torchwood episode is much more scarier.
Like it that New Guinea got a mention as I used to live there.

Well Chris Carter has said that Mulder and Scully's relationship was inspired by Steed and Mrs Peel from The Avengers, which also influenced the UNIT years of Doctor Who. |

Anasazi:
Wow what an end for the second season.
Was taken aback when that gunshot narrowly missed Scully.
Features another appearance by Michael David Simms (who was Swift in the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie). |

Syzygy:
Mulder and Scully visit a town which has bizarre deaths caused by two telekinetic girls.
This episode talks much about astrology but it did not stopped me from really liking this episode. |

The Sydney Sunday Telegraph had a feature on I Want To Believe on June 22.
It says that David Duchovny had started shooting mainly action scenes two weeks before Gillian Anderson arrived in which Duchovny said:
"We were running around doing crazy stuff and it didn't really feel like The X-Files to me so much, but then when I started to work with Gillian, it sank in."
The ads for the movie have begun showing here on Australian TV.
Before the movie is released, The X-Files Essentials is released on DVD. These are eight episodes from the TV series that needs to be watched prior to the movie.
The episodes are:
Pilot
Beyond The Sea (season 1)
The Host (season 2)
Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose (season 3)
Memento Mori (season 4)
Post-Modern Prometheus (season 5)
Bad Blood (season 5)
Milagro (season 6)

Rewatched the first three of those eight episodes at my sci fi club last week.
First of all Beyond The Sea featured Don S Davis as Scully's father. Scully's father died in the episode and in a sad coincidence so did Davis quite recently.
Only a few people turned up for the screening.
This would seem indicative of how I Want To Believe would perform as it had a disastrous box office showing in its first weekend in the States.
There were plenty of empty seats when I went to see it four days after its release at the earliest session at my local cinema of 2pm.
I thought I Want To Believe was passable however was disappointed on what happens with Agent Whitney.
I feel this was more suited for a TV movie as I think this felt short of what is required for big screen movie viewing.
Billy Connolly and Xzibit played very unimpressive characters.
Ben McEachen in the Sydney Sunday Telegraph gave it 2 and a half stars which comes with the headline "When X marks the flop".
Andiee Paviour of Who Magazine gave it three stars mainly due to David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
In At The Movies, Margaret Pomerantz gave it 3 stars and David Stratton 2 and a half with Billy Connolly's performance being treated as a joke. |
