| Doctor Who got a small mention in my yearbook this year! Under the "Most Likely To Be" category, two Year 12 girls put "A Time Lord", and another put (as it is written) "Doctor who's next companion, fighting off cybermen". |

Ickabod has started a thread about it in the Relative Dimension section:

There's a reference in this week's SMH TV Guide in the Ask Doug column:
'Brian Morrison of Coffs Harbour has dredged up a copy of the 1977 Alain Resnais drama Providence, which he says was sought by a reader "about three weeks ago". Various time-warping factors apply in the strange Tardis-like premises of The Guide but I can find no record of this request.' |

Just saw an ad for the new series Distant Shores on 7 which debuts tonight at 9:30pm and was surprised to see Peter Davison. However a bigger suprise was when his name appeared on screen. Under his name it says "Doctor Who: Time Crash". I had no idea that overall Australian viewers would be aware of Time Crash. I thought of all the Australian viewers that only Who fans would have known about Time Crash.
EDIT: Just noticed that Bionic Woman has started a thread on Distant Shores in the Relative Dimension section:

I recently got all the episodes of the original series of Survivors created by Terry Nation and the commentary for the first episode The Fourth Horseman has a Doctor Who reference.
This was due to the appearance of Peter Copley as moderator Andy Priestner remarked that the character that he played was similiar to Dr Warlock in Doctor Who: Pyramids of Mars which he said was broadcast in the same year as the Survivors episode (1975). |

Finished watching the Survivors episode Law and Order and in the commentary one of the show's main stars Ian McCulloch talked about Terry Nation's career including him writing for Daleks and Doctor Who.
McCulloch himself appeared in Doctor Who as Nilson in Warriors of the Deep. |

There were a few references in Sleek Geeks last night. They played the theme tune, mentioned that TARDIS stands for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space, and said that although the Doctor's a genius, he never realised that all he had to do to avoid the Daleks was run up some stairs.
When I was being driven home today, I saw something printed on a truck. I swear it said 'My TARDIS'. |

Well, there's a van in Canberra that has the word UNIT on the back of it...
I wonder if they stake out Rani's Indian Restaurant for any untoward activities? |

Speaking of which, I mentioned ages ago that a "Rani" (who's not even Indian) had joined work. The other day, when people were talking about names, I casually mentioned that I knew that Rani meant, basically, Indian princess. They were all really impressed and said, "You can tell you're a top Uni student". I let them think that, rather than saying, "Actually, I got it off Doctor Who!" Now I feel ashamed.
Ah well. |

I was watching the cricket the other day - and one of the Indian players got injured and the physio ran on to the field with a small bag.
He proceeded to take all sorts of different things: sprays, bandages, tablets, out of his bag which prompted commentator Michael Slater to say something along the lines of 'How does all that stuff fit into that bag he's got, it must be a bit like Doctor Who's Tardis!' |

In a follow up to this in an interview with Ian McCulloch included in the season 1 Survivors DVD he mentioned briefly being cast in Doctor Who by director Pennant Roberts. Long before Warriors of the Deep, Roberts had worked with McCulloch before when Roberts had directed on Survivors.
Roberts had directed six Doctor Who serials, the first The Face of Evil shown in 1977 and the last Timelash in 1985. Warriors of the Deep was his penultimate story in 1984. It has taken this long period of time for Roberts to finally get McCulloch something to do in Doctor Who. Well better late than never.
Also in that interview McCulloch added that his appearance in Doctor Who earned him a lot of money over the years. Thanks Ian. |

The Tomorrow People had been billed as ITV's answer to Doctor Who. Well it managed to include a pretty sly Doctor Who reference in one of the original series episode which I have just seen.
In the second episode of the season 2 finale The Doomsday Men, entitled The Burning Sword the Tomorrow People of John, Stephen and Elizabeth were travelling in space in which they commented that all sort of things have floated in space. This led to John to say to watch out for a police box! |

| I was at my supermarket (you know, the one where the Rani works) and I saw a man with a shirt bearing the logo 'Some Kinda Cleaning'. I guess once you steal their souls with a mirror, you can get them to anything, even housework... |

Another reference on the Survivors DVD.
In the commentary for the season 2 episode Lights of London Part II which was done by director Pennant Roberts and Dennis Lil (Image of the Fendahl), Roberts commented that they both did Doctor Who later on.
Also the episode took place in a complex of tunnels and Roberts said that he later returned to these same tunnels for a Doctor Who serial.
I am guessing the Doctor Who serial he was referring to (as he did not mention it by name) is The Sun Makers given the tunnels. |
