It appears that my original discussion on this has fallen off the board, which is all very mysterious as the thread trimming function isn't switched on.

The idea of this is for me to tell you what some friends and relatives of mine are up to, so you can possibly be interested and even spend money on them!

Those who read the last thread may recall this is usually about people who have written something, or who have made some music.

Enough intro...

First up, the wonderful Mr Perry Keyes. I promoted Perry's first album Meter when it came out, and he's now released a follow up, The Last Ghost Train Home.

This came out in 2007 and was chosen as the ABC Radio National album of the week. There are of course 52 of those each year, so you can fluke that one in. However, as 2007 drew to a close, it was named as ABC Radio National's album of the year for 2007. I was suitably impressed, because I'm biased and would have enjoyed it anyway.

And things didn't stop there. One track from this album was used in the soundtrack of an episode of Californication - completely bizarre that a friend of mine raised on the back streets of Redfern has a song in a TV show made in America.

You can visit Perry's website here and can hear tracks from his first album there, as well as other info. You can also visit his MySpace page here, which includes some tracks from his second album. (And if you wonder what some of the songs refer to, have a look back at Perry's regular site for a glossary of the people and places mentioned in his songs!)

And, dare I say? You can order either of both his albums direct from the label he's with, Laughing Outlaw Records, from the site.

I'm off to Sydney on 2 March for a show he's playing with his band, Give My Love to Rose.

And in more Perry news, The Last Ghost Train Home is on a short-list for the Australian Music Prize (see here and here) - winner to be announced on 13 March.

So to swap to an actual relative, my nephew Donovan is also a musician, and his band (Pleasant Valley - oh, sorry, 'pleasant valley', they dislike capital letters...) has released a CD. It's called songs about amplifiers, and ordering info is available from their myspace page.

pleasant valley describe themselves as 'grunge/punk/garage', but then they also say that they are made of cats taped together... You can hear some songs on their myspace page, which will let you hear what they actually sound like... and people in the Lismore area can keep an eye out for their shows.
