Good on you Theta Sigma! And it was good of Scott to reply to you too although I disagree with his views. Interesting that he doesn't seem to give any real reasons for not liking the new series, except that he doesn't seem to like Christopher Eccleston!
I'm also surprised that their mail was 50-50 for and against the show. My impression is that the show was well-liked by the general public but I only have anecdotal evidence to back that opinion up! |

Thanks for that. I too got the impression that the show is well-liked. Only heard a few saying they didn't like it certainly nowhere near the 50-50 mark. |

Theta Sigma, I saw your letter in the DT today! Good one!
I remember Scott Jenkins also irritated me when in a review of the Empty Child or the Doctor Dances he said the ratings in the UK had fallen by the time these episodes were shown! It was misleading as it overlooked the fact that TEC's ratings were affected by a one-off earlier timeslot and that fewer people watch TV in the UK in the warmer months. DW still had an excellent audience share and was winning its timeslot and even some Saturdays! I think he is a little biased against DW! |

This was in yesterday's Australian. I think Doctor Who was rating well if it was still getting close to 1 million after 3 months! It seems it was outrating The Bill in any case!

Did you feel it? The great disturbance in the Force, as if a million television sets were suddenly forced to contemplate life without The Bill on a Saturday night. The ABC's new Saturday night line-up kicked off with Midsomer Murders in the slot that previously aired Doctor Who. Midsomer Murders was watched by 1.11 million, which is about the same number who tuned into the first episode of Doctor Who. However, by the end of its run, the latter series was down to 981,000 viewers. It's hard to make a direct comparison between The Bill and its replacements, which air at 7.30pm and 9.05pm, as the two new shows absorb the old timeslot. Although the audience for Midsomer Murders was bigger than the 879,000 who watched the final Saturday episode of The Bill, it was higher still than the 674,000 who watched Hustle. However, Hustle's audience was slightly higher than the 659,000 who watched the last episode of Parkinson aired at 9.30pm the previous Saturday, so the ABC probably came out slightly ahead." |

I loved the episode. It has shown how much the three main characters have changed during their time together.
I give it my thumbs up.
I also believe that the series is very well liked. I haven't heard much against the new series as of yet. |

| Did anyone else notice the nice touch in this episode? Just before the Doctor and the audience find out that the Emperor Dalek made his new army from the dispossessed of Earth, the Doctor is inspecting the Dalek that Jack blasted inside the TARDIS: it quite clearly has two eyes, and a vaguely human face. The Dalek seen in the episode Dalek and the Emperor both only have one eye - obviously purebred Dalek creatures. |

I, myself, prefer the original Daleks and cant help thinking that when I listen to the later daleks that they sound far too nervous and excitable. Also I dont like the luminosity dispensers or whatever those lights are called.
Still, despite any sort of critisism and shortcoming it has, the new series is still better than all of the American Crap polluting the screens. |

By the 'original' Daleks, do you mean the Daleks from 1963 or the 70's? They sounded very different in The Daleks as opposed to say Day of the Daleks.
Personally I think the new series Daleks sound very much like the Daleks from the first serial they appeared in. |

I thought you were a Planet of the Daleks fan. Isn't 'Wester' the name of the main Spiridon? The one who healed Jo from the fungoids?
(Don't you just love those Terry Nation sci-fi names? Fungoids, Visions, voice/audio, etc etc. I heard he thought of the last one by looking on the spine of an encyclopedia which read 'voice' to 'audio'. Or was that something else.....) |

Sorry I am a HUGE fan of the story - I meant that I thank God they havent used the torch special effect since then - to my knowledge. |

Strange encyclopaedia that would range from 'voice' to 'audio', but the meat of that anecdote is familiar. I can't add more information to it, though. HOWEVER! An American sci-fi TV chappie once came to the UK and while on a motorway saw a sign pointing to the town of Luton. A year or so later, this man's TV show had an episode entitled something like "Terror of the Lutons". 
(can't remember which series it was, though)

I really hate "Dalekenium." I could have put up with it if it was "Dalekium" or "Darlonite" but Dalekenium sounds like it was made up to be lame. |
