I thought it was very good. I am not very good at reviews and such but this seemed like it fit's in very well with the TV series, just in the way that the Doctor and Rose come across to the reader. And it was a good story, which I guess, is what it's all about |

The Clockwise Man started off well. It built up a great atmosphere and the characters were all interesting, but then there was that crap final action sequence which must have lasted 100 pages. It was overly long, poorly desribed, nonsensical and had no pace. But I've heard other people couldn't put it down once they got to the action stuff... so it might just be me.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read... perhaps not as deep as some of the EDAs and PDAs I've read, but I can cope when it still remains fun. If it wasn't for that letdown of an ending I would have enjoyed it much more. I said good.

i thought this book was utterly fantastic, but as nyder said it did seem to lack in the last 100 pages... it was a shame, nice setting, i thought that some of the descriptions were quite good... i was suprised with the revelation of exactly WHO was the villain, and the painted lady was very creepy...

| I really enjoyed The Clockwise Man - The Doctor and Rose were well characterised and it retained the feel of the new series (the first three episodes at least, which were all I'd seen when I read it) |

I thought it starts off well in the beginning especially with London, 1924 provided an mysterious atmosphere, then goes through a steady paced before ending with a satisying conclusion.
Overall it is a pretty good start to this new series of books. |

Right. Just finished this one today. Only The Monsters Inside to go in the first 3 books.
I enjoyed The Clockwise Man much more than I did Winner Takes All. For me personally it was a far more interesting setting. I did notice that both WTA and TCM have a young character in them who ultimately becomes a hero. We'll see what the next book has to offer.
One thing that was inferior to Jac Raynor's effort was the characterisation of the Doctor and Rose. While Justin Richards did a good job, it just didn't have that zing that Ms Raynor got across in her book, both in characterisation and in dialogue.
I did expect to get some more 1920's contemporary characters throught the story, but those that did appear were used sparingly, apart from our young hero.
The Clockwise Man was a great improvement on Winner Takes All storywise, and I'm very much looking forward to the next one, which I am about to start right now! |
