Yet another reference on Rove:

"I'm Bert Newton, and I love Doctor Who - and I really think he should stay on as Liberal leader."

I only had a glance at Rove that night and I thought Bert Newton said that.

This reminds me of a book about another Liberal leader Dr John Hewson which I found at my uni library. I had a browse at it and there was one chapter with the title "Doctor Who?"

At Facebook I noticed someone with the name Gwen Owen.

Gwen and Owen are of course characters on Torchwood especially since how their characters got developed on the show.

In the September Optus Magazine there is a full page ad for an upcoming show on UKTV call Lark Rise to Candleford and it has a picture of three women who has done Doctor Who related work. On the left is Julia Sawahla and Absolutely Fabulous is under her name. On the right is Dawn French with Vicar of Dibley attached to her name. In the middle is Olivia Hallinan and what comes with her name is Torchwood.

It would seem that Olivia's work in Out of Time is the one she is best known for. So far.

EDIT: Last night in an ad break for Kokoda on 9 saw a Tooheys ad in which the voiceover mentioned going back in time and then a flurry of images came on screen which included the TARDIS!

Last night watched Robot Chicken on Comedy Channel in which the Fourth Doctor briefly appeared -
From Wikipedia:
"In the Adult Swim series Robot Chicken, the Fourth Doctor made an appearance, standing on the first base of a baseball diamond asking, "Do you get it?", a reference to the Abbott and Costello sketch "Who's on First?"."

This was not the only time that Doctor Who is referenced in the series. Also from Wikipedia:
"In another episode, entitled "Suck It", a student begins to give a presentation about the TARDIS before being berated for his perceived geekiness."

I am not 100% sure about this but I thought I heard Adam Sandler saying in the movie Click shown last night on 9 about the inside being bigger than the outside! Not to mention that the film deals with time travel.

I waqs watching that skit show after the hollow men and they were news reporters and aliens were invadning and they said "Where's Doctor Who when you need him?" "In fiction I imagine" I didnt laugh then but itseems alot funnier now.

In this month's issue of Stack the free magazine of JB Hi Fi, Pyramids of Mars got an unexpected reference.

It came with their list of 4 Great Mummies and it included the robot mummies from Pyramids of Mars. It says:
"These bandaged servants of Sutekh the Destroyer were actually robots, as Tom Baker's Time Lord discovered."

For the curious the other mummies came from The Mummy (1959), Blood From the Mummy's Tomb & Dawn of the Mummy.

Also "reverse the polarity" was mentioned in Scary Movie 4 shown last night on 7.

Also in the first episode of The Middleman I spotted a device that somehow felt like the sonic screwdriver.

So I'm with my aunt, who's kinda posh, and she's taking me through her CD collection so that we can upload them for her restaurant's playlist.

Amongst them is this classical CD. I don't actually remember what it was, but she enthusiastically pointed to it. I nodded, serious, and looked at it. At the top, it said "Erato Records".

Anyone who knows 'The Creature from the Pit' will know the infamous moment that fans always talk about concerning, erm... well, Erato's "nose". Of course, that immediately came to mind and I had to cup my hands over my face and turn away to stop the laughter coming out.

No big surprise that a classical music CD producing company would be called Erato, as she is the Muse of lyric poetry. Of course, the Muses names get all sorts of odd use - a calliope is the thing in the middle of the merry go round that plays all those awful tunes, and Calliope is the muse of epic poetry. Can't quite see the link there...

Of course, in Greek myth, Erato wasn't known for her green protuberances, either.

As the countdown to Midnight is now underway, I coincidentally saw 7's midday movie Murder 101: College Can Be Murder which featured a manuscript called A Perfect Midnight.

Plus in Neighbours the other night, there was a quick mention of a Mrs Harkness.

Kylie Minogue was on Rove the other night, and Rove asked her who her favourite Doctor Who was.

Not surprisingly, she chose the one she got to a) act alongside, and b) pash.

Sci Fi just had a Heroes marathon including showing some episodes of Heroes Unmasked which is basically the Heroes version of Doctor Who Confidential.

One of the episodes of Heroes Unmasked that got shown was the final episode The Story So Far and this featured well known British personalities who are Heroes fans.

They include a lot of Who names: Reggie Yates, Jon Culshaw, Russell T Davies, Andrew Collins (writer and broadcaster who has popped up in Doctor Who Confidential) and Debbie Chazen.

Doctor Who got referenced here and it included:
- Russell T Davies' very presence which had the on-screen caption reading "Head Writer, Doctor Who"
- Andrew Collins mentioning Doctor Who as an example (along with Heroes) of how special effects has worked well with today's TV science fiction. A couple of Doctor Who clips was included here from The Visitation (showing Tegan and the Terileptil leader) and The Lazarus Experiment (the Tenth Doctor and the Lazarus monster)
- The programme looked at the character of Claude as played by Chris Eccleston and a clip of him as the Ninth Doctor in Bad Wolf was briefly shown. Comedian Hugh Dennis had this to say about Chris as Claude: "You're Doctor Who, what are you doing with pidgeons."
Chris' former boss Russell T Davies said that Chris' appearance in Heroes is brilliant.

Claude's the best out of the lot!

My dad's reading a novelisation of Red Dwarf at the moment, and there are lots of sonic screwdriver references.

There were also a couple of references on ABC Radio recently. In the first one Adam Spencer mentioned it, and possibly did an impression (can't remember, can't be bothered to go downstairs and ask Dad). The next day he apparently mentioned spoilers, and people were complaining about this. Then one guy rang up and asked if they were bringing back K-9.
