I'm probably revealing what a big dork I am now, but are there any fellow fans of Stargate SG-1 or Atlantis here?! Confused

I started watching miscellaneous episodes of SG-1 during its erratic TV schedule and I really enjoyed what I saw - good, fun sci-fi stories with a bit of humour, action and heart.

So, when the Atlantis spin-off began, I started to, ummm .... well, I started collecting it from other sources, and I really got into it. This was a cool new show with great characters!

Of course, that led me back to SG-1 again, which I also collected by other sources, and I was hooked! I may be a super sci-fi dork to admit it, but I do like them both .... Anyone else in the same boat?! Smile

Yeah I am one.

Curious thing is that Beau Bridges who joined SG-1 in season 9 and Leonor Varela who was Chaya Sar in the Atlantis episode Sanctuary both share the same birthday as me December 9.

Prometheus Unbound:
Well this was quite fun.
Begins with a mission led by General Hammond (a welcome return by Don S Davis) which includes Daniel to help the Atlantis team which was ultimately abandoned and TV WEEK was wrong in saying that this was a crossover between the two shows since no one from Atlantis appears.
Things really looked up upon seeing Claudia Black making her introduction as Vala Mal Doran.
The fight scene between Vala and Daniel is quite funny. What really amused me the most about that was when Vala thought that the fight was over when all of a sudden she gets zapped by Daniel.
Daniel looked ridiculous in that armour but I love it how he introduce himself as "Hans Olo".

Claudia returns in Season 9 which has her Farscape co-star Ben Browder as a regular.

Meanwhile Enterprise star Connor Trinneer is the latest guest star on Atlantis:

I guess I am but not as a big fan as my brother, who has all the episodes on SG-1 on DVD. Which I watch now and again.

I really love the way that Stargate taps into other sci-fi markets with their guest (and regular) stars, as well as their geeky pop-culture references. It kinda makes you feel more a part of it - if that makes sense?!

It's nice to see that they've given Ben Browder a home and I really wish that Claudia Black would become a regular too. Aside from those Farscape refugees, they also seem to be taking in stray Star Trek stars like Connor Trineer and Robert Picardo. I certainly hope this trend continues .... Very Happy

- Chris

P.S. I'm glad there were some fellow Stargate fans here too. I had actually expected more, but I'm glad there's some. Of the ones who do watch it, do you prefer SG-1 or Atlantis?! I confess I've become very partial to Atlantis myself .... Cool

Well I haven't actually made a preference since I like both of them but did feel a little let down that Prometheus Unbound was shown instead of Atlantis. I mean I'm glad it finally got shown but I have gotten use to seeing Atlantis for the last couple of months and prior to Prometheus Unbound haven't seen SG-1 since 7 last show it. So it did take a little bit of an adjustment seeing SG-1 again after all this time.

I am a big fan of pretty much all sci-fi. I pefer SG-1 to Altantis. I collect the DVD's and haven't seen much of the Altantis series.

I run a sci-fi board with heaps of shows including both series of Stargate. Click on my sig aka the pic below to go to it.

I always looked forward to SG-1 and LOVE Atlantis, Ch.7 kept pissing me off when they kept removing it from week to week for the cricket (still can't believe it was on 7) and sometimes the simple life (someone shoot me).

When the final episode of Atlantis aired, I was so out-of-whack I didn't realise it was the season final, I thought it was the pen-ultimate episode... now I gotta wait Evil or Very Mad

There are, um .... other ways of getting these shows .... at least until the high-quality DVDs come through at a later date .... Wink

- Chris

P.S. I don't advocate that people avoid buying official DVD releases (quite the opposite, in fact), but I do advocate taking the appropriate measures when commercial channels aren't screening shows and you can't wait to see them! Twisted Evil

It wasn't, Atlantis took a break to make way for the two hour return of Alias and then Prometheus Unbound.

It's back on tonight and next week the first season will finish on 7 in a double episode.

I often use those means Chris (in fact...as we speak....Twisted Evil) ... and I completely agree about the differences between official DVD releases and free-to-air broadcasts. Until they overthrow the sony-beta-max decision....

Thanks for the heads-up Theta, I probably would have been tuned into 7 anyways. Very Happy

You're Welcome.

The Gift:
After having a break for three weeks this episode was definitely worth the wait.
The development of Teyla's character has been well developed here as we find out that she is part Wraith.
When the Wraith spoke through Teyla's voice I thought that was very scary.
It is a very good lead-up to the season's end.

Well glad to be onboard.

Last night at my uni sci fi club saw Sci Fi First, Sci Fi Friday which goes behind the scenes of the two Stargate series and Battlestar Galactica in the filming of their current seasons. Here Claudia says that her character Vala is really like Anya (from Buffy) while Amanda Tapping says that she glad that Buffy is no longer on as that helped her win the Saturn Award for best Sci Fi TV actress.

Also found out that Browder is not only a regular on season 9 of SG-1 as I previously said but he is actually the lead.

Yeah I really like SG-1, Atlantis and BSG. I loved Farscape and I believe that Ben Browder will do a good job as the head of SG-1. Very Happy

Thanks for the info Razz

I had assumed as much - which is pretty good really. Smile

I'm not sure if I mentioned it here, but Season 9 of SG-1 was originally intended to be a spin-off series called Stargate Command. With Richard Dean Anderson missing it was felt that perhaps it was time to retire the SG-1 name in favour of something new .... Sci-Fi Channel disagreed and insisted that this should be Season 9 of SG-1 instead. They felt that people would understand a change in the show after 9 seasons, but they did not want to lose the successful brand name.

If you watch the first episode of Season 9 then you will notice the prominent use of the name Stargate Command as it was filmed with that series title in mind. Interesting, huh?! Razz

The Siege Part 1:
This is pretty enjoyable and it is quite fun seeing Shepard shooting that Wraith in his interrogation of him.

The Siege Part 2:
This takes an unexpected twist with the arrival of a team led by Colonel Everett in helping out the Atlantis team.
The battle sequences is great.
However the best comes towards the end as Teyla is missing while Shepard takes a jumper to face the Wraith as the first season ends in a cliffhanger.
